Roland of Gilead wrote:Avatar, I've always wanted the sequels, too, but we're both out of luck. I saw Lucas interviewed on 60 Minutes Sunday, and he not only said he would never do the sequels, he even denied that there were EVER any plans for sequels.
Oh No!!. :( Damn, it's a mistake in my opinion. It's not as though nobody would go and see them, and the fact that he still has the important cast members to use, (naturally aged) would make it even more "realistic".

Oh well, another dream shattered. ;)

What I'm rooting for is the sequels.
There's plans for a Star Wars TV series to hit in late 2006; Aint-It-Cool-News has been reporting this for a while. There's nothing set on when the series would take place.

Hmm, that explains why I was not as disappointed as most. I was an adult when the first Star Wars movie came out. :P

However, I did think the last movie was lame, and am hoping for much better this time around. 8)

It also explains why I wasn't as disappointed as most - I wasn't born, and I didn't really pay much attention to the films until I was in my teens.

In slightly silly fashion, I've found that the plots of the videogames Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 are FAR superior to the plots of the new films. Slightly better acted too.

Sequels would confuse a lot of the SW universe, seeing as dozens of sequel novels have already been written.

I'd like to see a movie made of Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn" trilogy, set after "Return of the Jedi."

Saw GL on CNN today - he said there is more limbs cut off, decapitations and bodies chopped in half in this movie. Sounds cool to me!

Indeed. Very true. And it certainly doesn't help that Christianson and Portman have zero chemistry together, and that they are both so wooden. As Portman has demonstrated acting ability in other films, that points, in turn, to poor directing.
Lucas has a reputation for having poor character direction. I don't think even in 4, 5 & 6 that his characters had much depth.

I thin the blame for any criticism can be directly put on Lucas's shoulder's, and with that, if Episode III owns, he should get the credit as well. I have always felt the prequels thus far have been riddled with the worst dialogue in recent memory. Anakin's constant, "YIPPPESS!" was unbearable. I look at the actors and I know they aren't this bad. Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Ian Mcdiarmid, Christopher Lee, hell even Hayden has been much better in other films. I am big fan of Starwars, but I can not imagine a worst outcome with these actors invovled, and that has to fall on Lucas's shoulders.

i'm all for a PG-13 rating, I think it's at long last a positive sign for fans of the original mythos.

If sequels are made, I expect everything in the 'official' Star Wars books by Zahn and others to go right out the window.

Remember, the first SW book (except for the novelization of the original film) was Splinter of the Mind's Eye, by Alan Dean Foster. Pretty much everything in that book was flatly contradicted in The Empire Strikes Back. If Lucas were to make Episodes VII through IX (or whatever), he would be perfectly within his rights to do the same again.

I've often wondered just how "official" those books are? Have read a few of them, and enjoyed them on the whole, but had wondered if any sequels would follow that story-line.

As you say, he'd be within his rights to ignore them, which would be a pity.

I'll have to read Splinter again though. It's been a long time, and I don't recall contradictions. (Although I have no doubt that you're right.)

Well, the spoilers there confirm the first half of what I'd already read elsewhere - although what I read was a little more coherent. :)
