for my darling wife, Julie...

Phish : the Connection

When I see the connection
Though I see I don't stare
Though I see I don't stare

When I'm lost in my reflection
Though I see I don't stare
Though I see I don't stare

Then I change my direction
One foot follows the other
One foot follows something new
'Cause I need some protection
And I'm scared I could lose it
If I stare, you'll be gone

When I need some attention
Though I see I don't stare
Though I see I don't stare

When I'm lost in my reflection
Though I see I don't stare
Though I see I don't stare

To my husband, Russ..

I can't remember when you weren't there,
When I didn't care for anyone but you.
I swear we've been through everything there is,
Can't imagine anything we've missed.
Can't imagine anything the two of us can't do.

Through the years,
You've never let me down,
You turned my life around.
The sweetest days I've found,
I've found with you.
Through the years,
I've never been afraid,
I've loved the life we've made.
And I'm so glad I've stayed,
Right here with you,

Through the years.

I can't remember what I used to do,
Or who I trusted who, I listened to before.
And I swear, you've taught me everything I know.
Can't imagine needing someone so.
Through the years it seems to me,
I need you more and more.

Through the years,
Through all the good and bad,
I know how much we had,
I've always been so glad,
To be with you.
Through the years,
It's better everyday.
You've kissed my tears away.
And as long as it's okay,
I'll stay with you,
Through the years.

Through the years,
When everything went wrong,
Together we were strong.
I know that I belonged,
Right here with you.
Through the years,
I never had a doubt,
We'd always work things out.
I have learned what life's about,
By loving you,
Through the years.

Through the years.

Russ and I met on October 3. 1970. We were both 7 years old. He was the new kid in my 2nd grade class. In order to get my attention, he spit on my desk. He's been the love of my life ever since... 34 years. Here's to 34 more, honey. I love you. :D

Re-dedicated to the Lady Tamara Ten-Ashtoreth,

Keep Coming Back

You know just how to hurt me
And how to take all my pain away
Girl, you must be the devil in disguise
There were times, I think you knew
When I was so afraid of you
There's some kind of madness in your eyes

You know a place buried deep in my heart
Nobody else can see
Something in you has taken some kind of hold on me

Chorus:
I don't know why I keep coming back to you, babe
I don't know why I keep coming back to you
To you baby

You say we shouldn't be lovers
And I say we can't just be friends
And all this talking just makes me want you more

You've got a way of confusing a heart
That nobody else could do
Why should I try, I don't want to get over you, no

Chorus:
I don't know why I keep coming back to you, babe
Just tell me why I keep coming back to you, my babe
I don't know why I keep coming back to you, babe
Just tell me why I keep coming back to you

I'm so in love, so in love with the games that you play
So in love, and nothing can keep me away

You've got a way of confusing a heart
That nobody else could do
Why should I try, I don't want to get over you

Chorus:
I don't know why I keep coming back to you, babe
Ooh, just tell me why I keep coming back to you, babe
I don't know why I keep coming back to you, baby
Just tell me why I keep coming back to you, babe
To you baby, oh

To you baby
Tell me why, tell me why
I keep coming back to you

Written by Richard Marx

When I went with Tam to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota to meet her parents and ask for her hand a CD was stuck to the engagement ring. I played this song while on my knee. May 24th marks 13 wonderful years together. 8)

Ah, music, music, music - the love of my life. And now the school holidays are over I've got the weekdays free to carry on my optomistic attempts at musicianship again, so I'll be posting on a reduced basis again for a while.

Anyway, here's one of my own, which is going to be recorded sometime in the next couple of months. I'd like to dedicate it to all those people in the Think-Tank I had a good stimulating row with on the subject of the Bush administration and human rights. I know I stopped posting on the matter a while back - this is (I promise) my final pop on the subject. And it's so much shorter than one of my posts !

"E.F.P."

So civilised and free
This model of democracy
How extraoardinary this rendition

The world we settle for
A system rotten from the core
A clean exemption from convention

In the land of the free

The marvel of the printed lie
Has led me to a better place
Where miracles are possible
And tainted souls make leaps of faith

Engaged and ruled anew
Our faded ideals pulled into
The rising tide of fundamentalism

The dreams we settle for
The acts of fear and faith and war
Inform the acts of patriotism

In the hands of the free

"In a Free Land"

Government authorize education
(Don't mean a thing)
They'll teach you what they want you to think
(Don't mean a thing)
Saturation of stars and stripes

The only freedom worth fighting for is for what you think

Why bother spending time
Reading up on things
Everybody's an authority
In a free land
In a free landIn a free land

To my classical music buddies, a rousing version of my favorite song in all the world! Image
Original Scores of Beethoven's Ode to Joy

TOTALLY TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH

BARITONE
Oh friends, not these tones!
Let us raise our voices in more
pleasing and more joyful sounds!

ODE TO JOY (Friedrich Schiller)

BARITONE, QUARTET, AND CHORUS
Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Thy magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under thy gentle wing.

May he who has had the fortune
To gain a true friend
And he who has won a noble wife
Join in our jubilation!

Yes, even if he calls but one soul
His own in all the world.
But he who has failed in this
Must steal away alone and in tears.

All the world's creatures
Draw joy from nature's breast;
Both the good and the evil
Follow her rose-strewn path.

She gave us kisses and wine
And a friend loyal unto death;
She gave lust for life to the lowliest,
And the Cherub stands before God.

TENOR SOLO AND CHORUS
Joyously, as his suns speed
Through Heaven's glorious order,
Hasten, Brothers, on your way,
Exulting as a knight in victory.

CHORUS

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Joy, daughter of Elysium
Thy magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under thy gentle wing.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Joy, beautiful spark of Gods!,
Daughter of Elysium,
Joy, beautiful spark of Gods!.

i shall be bowing out of the Think Tank for a week or two. burned out right now. so here is one for the Tank.

Give Birth to a Smile (Waters) 2:48

Long live the child and the man
Long live the mother and the lad
The hills behind us and the sea
Reach out to welcome you and me
Valley deep and mountain tall
Lie upon the ground before us all
Strange are the colours of the turf
Heralding the rebirth of the earth
Gather all your energy and try
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile, everytime you think about it
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile, hear me tellin' you
Give birth to a smile, give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile, give birth, give birth
Give birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile, every day of your life
Give birth to a smile, give a little birth to a smile
Give birth to a smile

To Dennis:

I Can Only Imagine--Mercy Me

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By Your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When Your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for You Jesus or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in Your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for You Jesus or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in Your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You.

For Fist and Faith (I do not like this song, but the thought should still count ;) )

Who's that knocking on my door
It's gotta be a quarter to four
Is it you again coming 'round for more
Well you can love me tonight if you want
But in the morning make sure you're gone
I'm talkin' to you
Hot legs, wearing me out
Hot legs, you can scream and shout
Hot legs, are you still in school
I love you honey

Gotta most persuasive tongue
You promise all kinds of fun
But what you don't understand
I'm a working man
Gonna need a shot of vitamin E
By the time you're finished with me
I'm talking to you
Hot legs, you're an alley cat
Hot legs, you scratch my back
Hot legs, bring your mother too
I love you honey

Imagine how my daddy felt
in your jet black suspender belt
Seventeen years old
He's touching sixty four

You got legs right up to your neck
You're making me a physical wreck
I'm talking to you
Hot legs, in your satin shoes
Hot legs, are you still in school
Hot legs, you're making me a fool
I love you honey

Hot legs, making your mark
Hot legs, keep my pencil sharp
Hot legs, keep your hands to yourself
I love you honey
Hot legs, you're wearing me out
Hot legs, you can scream and shout
Hot legs, you're still in school
I love you honey

Since it's Damelon's birthday today, this is for him. :letsparty:

Beatles - Birthday Lyrics

You say it's your birthday
It's my birthday too--yeah
They say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party.

I would like you to dance--Birthday
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance-Birthday
I would like you to dance--Birthday
Dance

You say it's your birthday
Well it's my birthday too--yeah
You say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

To Danlo, Fisty, and Dlb (and whomever else might show up ;) ):
Frank Sinatra's New York, New York

New york, new york

Start spreading the news, I’m leaving today
I want to be a part of it - new york, new york
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it - new york, new york

I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn’t sleep
And find I’m king of the hill - top of the heap

These little town blues, are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it - in old new york
If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you - new york, new york

New york, new york
I want to wake up in a city, that never sleeps
And find I’m a number one top of the list, king of the hill
A number one

These little town blues, are melting away
I’m gonna make a brand new start of it - in old new york
And if I can make it there, I’m gonna make it anywhere

It up to you - new york new york

New york

I know it will be high summer, not fall, but it's the thought that counts ;) :

Frank Sinatra's Auntumn in New York

Autumn in new york
Why does it seem so exciting (inviting)
Autumn in new york
It spells the thrill of first-knighting

Shimmering clouds - glimmering crowds (glittering crowds and shimmering clouds)
In canyons of steel
They’re making me feel - I’m home

It’s autumn in new york
That brings a (the) promise of new love
Autumn in new york
Is often mingled with pain

Dreamers with empty hands
(they) all sigh for exotic lands

(but) it’s autumn in new york
It’s good to live it again

This autumn in new york
Transforms the slums into mayfair
Autumn in new york
You’ll need no castles in spain

Lovers that bless the dark
On benches in central park

(but) it’s autumn in new york
It’s good to live it again

(- in new york)
Ella Fitzgerald's Manhattan

Summer journeys to Niag'ra
and to other places aggra-
vate all our cares.
We'll save our fares!

I've a cozy little flat in
what is known as old Manhattan
we'll settle down
right here in town!

We'll have Manhattan
the Bronx and Staten
Island too.
It's lovely going through
the zoo!

It's very fancy
on old Delancy
street you know.
The subway charms us so
when balmy breezes blow
to and fro.

And tell me what street
compares with Mott Street
in July?
Sweet pushcarts gently gli-ding by.

The great big city's a wonderous toy
just made for a girl and boy.
We'll turn Manhattan
into an isle of joy!

We'll go to Yonkers
Where true love conquers
In the whiles
And starve together dear, in Chiles

We'll go to Coney
And eat baloney on a roll
In Central Park we'll stroll
Where our first kiss we stole
Soul to soul

And "My Fair Lady" is a terrific show they say
We both may see it close, some day

The city's glamour can never spoil
The dreams of a boy and goil
We'll turn Manhattan
into an isle of joy!

Pantera - "Walk"
Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you...
You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
What do I do?

(Pre) Is there no standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
Belong
You can't be something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself

Stay away from me
A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

(Chorus) Respect, walk

Run your mouth when I'm not around
It's easy to achieve
You cry to weak friends that sympathize
Can you hear the violins playing you song?
Those same friends tell me your every word

(Pre)

(Chorus)

Are you talking to me?
No way punk

Blister In The Sun
Violent Femmes
When I'm out walking I strut my stuff yeah I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite I just might stop to check you out
let me go on like a blister in the sun
let me go on big hands I know your the one
body and beats I stain my sheets I don't even know why
my girlfriend she's at the end she is starting to cry
let me go on like a blister in the sun
let me go on big hands I know your the one...

Actually, that song has just been in my head since reading the "respect" thread in the Think Tank (the word respect being quite dominant in the lyrics). Not dedicated to anyone in particular. That'd be pretty mean.

Woulda put it in favorite lyrics, but it isn't. *shrug*

This is for anyone who disagrees with me, for any reason:
Hair of the Dog

Heart breaker, soul shaker
I've been told about you
Steamroller, midnight stroller
What they've been saying must be true

Red hot mama
Velvet charmer
Time's come to pay your dues

Now you're messin' with a
A son of a bitch
Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch
Now you're messin' with a
A son of a bitch
Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch

Talkin' jivey, poison ivy
You ain't gonna cling to me
Man taker, born faker
I ain't so blind I can't see

Red hot mama
Velvet charmer
Time's come to pay your dues

Now you're messin' with a
A son of a bitch
Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch
Now you're messin' with a
A son of a bitch
Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch

for The Esmer...
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine
:)
