Hopefully you realize I was talking about The Phantom Plot and Nap of the Clones.dlbpharmd wrote:BLASPHEMY!The first two movies were horrible.
PERSECUTE THE BLASPHEMER!
It's okay, since you're always blaspheming against Tolkien's books.dlbpharmd wrote:More blasphemy! You're only making things worse for yourself!
Sorry, but I haven't seen those movies. I tend not to pass judgement until I have.Lord Foul wrote:Among the worst? Lore, I'm sorry, but the Star Wars prequels are towering monuments of human genius when compared with the worst movies of all time. We're talking stuff like "From Justin to Kelly", "Girl in Gold Boots", "Troll 2", "SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2", and, yes,Loremaster wrote:I'm only seeing this movie because I'm seeing it for free (like the last two) and it's the end of the prequels. 'Manos' The Hands of Fate

So if you haven't seen the worst movies of all time, then how can you compare Phantom with them, eh?Loremaster wrote:Sorry, but I haven't seen those movies. 'Manos' The Hands of Fate
What the hell? Why are we even debating that a movie is as bad as Manos? It's not possible, Cail.Cail wrote:Manos is terrible, but it's also not a big-budget blockbuster from a major director and studio. Manos was straight-to-video, it would have been surprising if it was good.
The movie was given a gala premiere in El Paso attended by several local dignitaries. Many members of the cast and crew left before the end of the screening out of embarrassmen as people in the audience began to heckle the movie mercilessly just a few minutes into it.
I will agree that they were let-downs, in terms of what they had to live up to (it's hard to imagine anything matching that hype). I will say that there was a great share of bad acting, but I blame that not on the actors but what they had to work with (the writing and direction of Lucas). Had the film had a Kershner in the director's seat (or some characters that you can attach yourself to emotionally, like in Empire), then we'd be celebrating these prequels, rather than reviling.Cail wrote:Foul, I'm not saying that the prequels were as bad as Manos (I can't believe that stinker went to the theaters!). I am saying that the plot, acting and dialogue in them is bad. Really bad. They're not terrible films of the magnitude of Manos, or Alone in the Dark, but they are tremendous let-downs given their pedigree.
One example: Anakin in Episode II.dlbpharmd wrote:I still don't understand the bad dialogue argument. Could somebody explain that to me?
Anakin: From the moment I met you, all those years ago, not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you. And now that I'm with you again... I'm in agony. The closer I get to you, the worse it gets. The thought of not being with you- I can't breath. I'm haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me. My heart is beating... hoping that kiss will not become a scar. You are in my very soul, tormenting me... what can I do?- I will do anything you ask.
[uncomfortable pause]
Anakin: ... if you are suffering as much as I am, PLEASE, tell me.
Padme: We used to come here for school retreat. We would swim to that island every day. I love the water. We used to lie out on the sand and let the sun dry us and try to guess the names of the birds singing.
Anakin: I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth.
Anakin: I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM.
