Hands down, Rufus Wainright's cover of "Across the Universe". He has got to be the only person ever to do a Beatles cover that actually exceeds the original recording. (I know it's hard to believe, just compare the two!)

Primus also does a mean cover of "Have a Cigar"

The I am Sam soundtrack has a lot of good beatles covers, and a few that are mangled. It's a damn good album though.

Type O Negative's versions of Paranoid and Black Sabbath...Gates of Ishtar did a good cover of WASP's 'I wanna be somebody'...

Ozzy's version of stayin alive by the beegees was really funny...

Jimi Hendrix did a great cover of Bob Dylan's song, so good that Jimi Hendrix was remembered for doing it instead of Dylan, but i can't remember the song.

You're probably thinking of All Along the Watch Tower. (Neil Young does a damm good cover of it too... 8) Neil also does a great version of The Greatful Dead's Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do? on Broken Arrow. It's recorded live in a sleasy little bar and I think he's just as drunk as the patrons! :D )

Bad as it was, I don't think it's as bad as Lenny Kravitz's American Woman or Bananarama's Venus. Those are the worst IMO

Right you are Duck! Nothing's worse than LK's American Woman--**holds nose, runs away!**

Ah, Lenny Kravitz. The man who makes Jimi Hendrix turn in his grave more frequently than anyone else. That said, I've always quite liked the riff on his American Woman.

I'm quite fond of Sundays' cover of the Stones' Wild Horses. One of my friends wants it for the first dance at her wedding

How 'bout Nine Inch Nails doing "Get Down Make Love" by Queen, or Tom Jones and Art of Noise doing Prince's "Kiss"?

But the best, I think, is Van Halen's "You Really Got Me".

I totally agree with Cail on "You Really Got Me".
I also like "My Way" - Sex Pistols
"All Along The Watchtower" - XTC
"Aint That A Shame" - Cheap Trick
"California Sun" - Ramones
"Satisfaction"- DEVO
"Someone's Been Sleepin In My Bed" - Foghat

A couple from Johnny Cash.

NIN- Hurt
Soundgarden - Rusy Cage

I think Cash's version of Hurt was better. Rusty Cage was just cool.

"All Along The Watch Tower", "Hey Joe", and I believe there was
one other song that Dylan wrote/played, but Hendrix made popular.
I like the Hendrix versions a HELLUVA lot better than the Dylan versions.

The Greatfull Dead do an awesome cover of Good Lovin'

A graet cover album I've had since Iw as a teenageer (early 90's) is:
If I were a Carpernter.
It's all these Alt/Punk and just a few hard rockers playing their take on songs by the Carpenters.
Four non-Blones do an awesome version of Bless the Beasts and the children, and Sonic Youth do this spooky version of Superstar

My current fave is an artist named Jonatha Brooke doing Alan Parsons "Eye in the Sky", also Norah Jones "Cold, Cold Heart" (Hank Williams), and Smashing Pumpkins "Destination Unknown" (Missing Persons)

Destination Unknown? The "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" single. Yeah, I also like their cover of the Cure's "A Night Like This." The Strokes do Velvet Underground's "Run Run Run" well, and I like the version of Pink Floyd's "Money" by Velvet Revolver. And then there are classics like "All Along the Watchtower" by Hendrix, and I like GNR's version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin on Heaven's Door."

Has anyone heard the band (I think they're called) 311 sing (and I use the term sing lightly) the Cure's Lovesong?
Man, Thanks alot for ruining one of my favorite songs.
