F&F, Do you have the hardcover version of 300? It's a tremendous comic and the hardcover is oversized and gorgeous.

I love those quotes...The melodrama of comic book dialogue is always great. I'll have to check out Sin City...haven't read that one yet.

If you haven't had the pleasure yet I couldn't recommend a book more strongly than "Gates of Fire" by Stephen Pressfield. It's a retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae from the POV of a Spartan slave. In a word "Spectacular". I GUARANTEE you wil thank me for the recommendation!

I loved 300 too! Ive read a bit of ancient greek lit and history, and the pathos Miller injects into that comic is worthy of Homer (less repetitive too

)

Gaiman has a couple of things coming out in August. One is, I'm told, a big hardcover that has several stories, one for each of the Endless. I hope to find a way to read it without paying for it, because I imagine a hefty cover price.

First of all, what's your title mean?
I started collecting comics when the X-Men were battling the Hellfire (heh) Club at the beginning of the Dark Phoenix Saga, and a couple issues before Elektra made her first appearance. Not a bad time to get involved, eh?

It's from Celtic mythology. Loosely transalted, it means 'Tribe of the Earthgoddess Danu'. By bearing this title, i'm identifying myself as a worshipper of the Earth (Danu), in all Her glory!

The Celts believed that if Danyu was not properly respected, then no crops would grow and she would turn the country into a 'sourland', incapable of supporting life.

Kinda where we are headed now....

But enough depresion!!

I, too, got into comics early F&F. I bought my first copy of 2000AD when i was 7, and i've been collecting off and on ever since. (I still have issue number 3, the first in which JD appeared!)

It's only over the past ten years, however, that i started getting into American comics, mainly things like Xmen and Wolverine, Punisher and Miller.

Has anyone else read the TinTin comics? By Herge?

I've read those since I was just a little tot. Never did understand them back then, but the characters were enough to keep me interested. Now, I can actually understand them. They are great!

I've heard of asterix.... isn't that in French? Our french teacher was gonna try and get us some but decided they might be too hard.

Yeah, the comics are French, but they translate really well into English. The authors, Gosciny and Uderzo, used to consult with their transaltors all the time, so that the witty puns that are throughout the books would be understandable.

As for being too hard; 'parley vou Anglais?, j'mpel Nick' is the limit to my incredibly bad French!

alright F&F; sorry for running off on an uknown-comic tangent!

So, *Earthfiend says, trying to patch things up before he makes an enemie of an Haruchai - not a good idea!*), so what comic had the biggest effect on you F&F? Which one can you read over and over and it still sends a shiver up the spine?

Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

Daredevil's Born Again saga would be at the top of the list.

Return of the Dark Knight and Year One.

Dreadstar's The Price, and the issue where he kills Z, and his first fight against the Lord High Papal.

LSH's Life, Death, and the End of Time, where they fight the Time Trapper and we learn that Rond Vidar is a Green Lantern.

The Shang Chi arc where he fought his father and Death Dealer.

hmmm, let's see.... what else....

i gots to agree with you about Dark Knight! Never really was a big Batman fan until Miller got his claws into him!

Top of my list would be The Sandman series - beautifully written books

The Rogue Trooper alternate, War Machine ,is up there too.

And Daniel Brereton's The Pyscho is trully awesome - if you haven't read that F&F; FIND it, BUY it, READ it!!!

I mean, it's that good

My favorite Asterix would be The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (or Asterix and the Twelve Tasks). My son has that one on VCD - it's great!
