Also definitely not an image of a live creature.

My take:

The vast majority of sightings can be explained away. I mean the vast number. However, there are enough accounts of this creature and others like it elsewhere to lend credence to this theory:

An unknown--as in uncaptured--cetacean with a long neck might exist and may well sometimes find its way into large inland lakes. Such a creature is not a plesiasaur <sp?> but warm-blooded, probably spending most of its time in the ocean.

That is a viable--and fun--theory, imo.
