Wow...Night Flight.
That makes me think of another old one. Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.
Remember that one?

Blasts from the past!
A third show I used to watch was on Fridays at midnight.
It was called Midnight Special and featured
live broadcasts of rock concerts,
like California Jam 1 & 2 (as they were happening),
Les Paul with Jeff Beck playing for a small venue in NY,
and the first time I seen Emerson, Lake, & Palmer perform.
Ahhh.... those were the days.

Can't say that I remember Midnight Special.
I also remember (probably at least a year prior to MTV) that the USA network used to have a 2 hour show of music videos on Saturday mornings.
There were only a handful of videos that they always played. Two that I remember that got played repeatedly were 'Garbage Man' by Tim Curry (yes, Tim Curry) and Teenage Wasteland (Baba O'Riley) by The Who.
Anyone else remember that show? I can't remeber the name of it. It had to be airing sometime back around 1980...cuz I was a freshman in high school then.

MTV brought cable to my home for first time....can anyone say "Buggles"?
As the answer to the trivia question "What was the first act ever played on MTV?," the Buggles assured their place in pop music history.

Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
With random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Nobody knows where you are,
How near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers
And I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow
Of yesterday's triumph,
And sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child,
You winner and loser,
Come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!
