We did London last time, and it proved to be a right pain for everyone

Hmmm.

...Brighton?

I'm afraid Brighton would be even more difficult, as most of us would have to go through London to get there. As a rule of thumb I "don't go saarf o' va rivva mate", public transport gets a bit warped down there.

The Midland Mainline trains out of St Pancras are very good though, you can get to Leicester in 50 minutes and Nottingham in 70. Of course you'd still have to get to St Pancras, but that's less daunting for people who brave London on a regular basis.

Yeah, the Brighton was something of a joke; I figured that if London was too tricky then Brighton would be too :)

I hardly ever go north of London... then again, I was considering applying for Nottingham and/or Birmingham university, so maybe it'd be a good chance to get a look there.

I have barraged as many UK members as I can find, numbering about 10-12. So far three replies:

Gart - Yes
The Somberlain - Maybe
Berenford - No

No details have been forthcoming from my slovenly subconscious. Suggestions would be welcome, particularly from anyone who has specific tastes or aversions. Or Nathan, since he's local.

sorry to be a pest guys but any info yet as the date marches closer?
Even where we are initially meeting would be handy :)

I think CovJr suggested the Pit and Pendulum, I've not been there before, but it's near (in?) the city centre so should be easy enough to find.

Ah-ha!

Oooh.

Nottingham's a fair bit further than I'd thought...

Almost 200 miles.

I may have to cancel my attendance, since I don't know that I have enough money for petrol, let alone doing anything there. But it might still be a possibility.

Alright, I'll shift you to the "maybe" list.

Yes, the initial plan is to meet at the Pit and Pendulum, simply because it's pretty central (just off the Market Square) and I like it there. Beyond that, I haven't got a clue. This is why I opposed Nottingham - I'm a rubbish host.

A train to Nottingham won't cost much, Somberlain. (Provided you book in advance)

I got a ticket back home for about £12.00 (one way) for the christmas holiday, and that's about 150 miles.

I know very little about things to do in Nottingham, unfortunately. I've mostly been to the bars on campus because they're so much cheaper/closer so I've only ventured into the city for things like food. I'm not much help on the suggestions front, I'm afraid.

I would have suggested Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem, since it's unique to Nottingham, but it's probably harder to find than the Pit.

I'll go along with whatever Covjr proposes. I'm sure everyone will be happy with whatever you decide!
