On this Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada, I'd just like to give thanks to Stephen R. Donaldson for writing Runes of the Earth, and I also want to give thanks to Jay for being an even slower reader than me, because...
I've finished Runes ahead of Jay! I've finished Runes ahead of Jay!

As you'll know if you follow the "reading" threads, I'm sorta stuck for something to read now. I think I'm gonna reread
Runes, and see if I can complete my third read before Jay finishes his first.

You've read all the Earthsea and Neverness books? Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged? You must be able to find something here:

I've never finished Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, by Douglas Hofstader, but the couple hundred pages I read were awesome.

You know you are a slow reader when mass market paperback afficianados like I get finished earlier than you despite you having bought the hardcover, apparently about when it came out too. You really know you are a slow reader when mass market paperback afficianados reading in their second language like I do finish earlier. Donaldson writes so well I couldn't have drawn it out like you if I had wanted to. I took four days to read through The Runes of the Earth which was quite long, considering that I have read Tad Williams bricks in three days, but I had some distractions and started late on a Friday night.
Wayfriend, that was excellent. I laughed so hard I cried.

And, while I'm sure I'm going to piss off every member here by saying this, I wouldn't call
Runes the most exciting thing I've ever read from SRD...heh. I was able to read the entire Gap series in one summer. But for some reason
Runes just hasn't grabbed me.-jay

Actually, Jay, I don't think there's anything wrong with reading Runes slowly and incrementally. Look at the folks who blazed through the book in mere days: now all they do is whine about having to wait sooo long for Fatal Revenant.
(Just teasing, people...)
Runes itself wasn't the problem for me, as I felt the story was plenty exciting. I think the main reasons
I took so long to read Runes were: a) I got burned out by all the anticipation and discussion leading up to its release, and b) all the early spoilers and spoiler reviews about Runes ruined a lot of my initial enthusiasm. Which is why I'm going to take the drastic measure of avoiding KW completely when the release of Fatal Revenant is imminent. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to avoid any whiff of a spoiler.
Anyway, I've been spending the last few days poring over the back pages of the Runes forum, catching up to all the discussions there. Crazy place! And I thought the Think-Tank was having heated debates, sheesh.

I felt it was all "build-up" too, so I went and bought the first 2 series "again", heh, to see if it would help to "brush up", and there they sit, still.....

i'm the whiney girl whinning for the next one and the next one and the next one...after ROTE was finished i also went and bought old used pprbks of the first six and went through them and ROTE again! and was still whinning until i found Gabaldon and Erikson!!
(lucimay should NOT drink coffee while reading, makes her read faster!!)

Don't worry about it - it took me eight months to finish it!
And I'm guessing it will take me about 18 months to finish Fatal Revenant.
