One tradition I have (which I did not mention because I had been thinking of my family's Christmas traditions when I first posted in this thread) is going to see a friend in concert.
He sings in a choir for gay men and they always have a great concert, a cool mixture of hymns and funny stuff. 
A couple of years ago he made me cry - they had a song for families and he asked me to come up along with his wife, and we were his family. He put one arm around each of us and sang his heart out.
