I dislike oatmeal, but I start out the day with it several times weekly. I always eat whole grain oats (single serving instant) and mix the flavors up. Even though I buy the more expensive ones with extra omega oils, fruit, nuts, etc. it's a cheap, quick, easy breakfast that will satiate me and keep me from snacking until lunch.

Not on the Watch.
Other forums on the 'net, and on AOL's message boards, yes.
But not on the Watch.

Well...other than my Gravin Threndor alter egos...

Oatmeal is evil. I renounce it.

Why? It was what I ate during my anorexic phase, though that's my fault and not oatmeal. Still, when I see the Quaker Oats man, it seems to me he has a devilish grin.

Man, Cail. That sounds so funny, looking at how uber-athletic you are now.

I had something the other day at the Corner Bakery restaurant that they call Swiss oatmeal. It's served cold, and given the way cold oatmeal usually behaves (as in, you can use it for mortaring a brick wall...), it's surprisingly good. Here's what they claim is in it: rolled oats, chopped green apple, bananas, currants, dried cranberries, lowfat yogurt, and skim milk.

Meusli???

I've been eating that for years. I love it with plain yogurt.

That's the stuff, yeah. The "fresh" version. Very tasty! I equate the other kind with granola, which I avoid because it typically has a lot of fat.

My memory of muesli is rather hazy, though I remember it being like eating uncooked oatmeal. It was kind of a fun impression--like eating cookie dough as a kid or something. I should get more of it.

I rarely trust these "research-based" articles. For one thing, there's only one group (or person) in them that does the research, and there's never any follow-up or other groups to see if it's true. And the sample is never comprehensive--maybe a few people (or lab rats). Unless it says "100% chance," then the cause of cancer could be random. I mean, one article recently said that belly fat causes dementia. Geez. Journalists.

Oh, sorry, better shut up before HLT gets in here. Ahhhhh!! OATMEAL CANCER!!!

Thanks for the link, Prebe. I dunno what was more entertaining -- the article or the Danish-language ads....

I like Quaker Old Fashioned Oats -- 1/2 cup oats, a cup of water, nuke for 2 minutes, stir, nuke ofr 1 inurte -- then add dash or 2 of salt, splenda (sugar substitute) and some whole milk. Love it.

I do love steel cut, but lack the time for making it.

The crockpot version is awesome, and ready when you are. I would make it without all the dried fruit next time though.
