I read the Riddlemaster trilogy this summer, at MsMary's suggestion. For most of the first book and part of the second, I was wondering what the fuss was all about - I even called my mom and asked why she recommended this book to me.
But by the end, I was totally captivated. The books are definitely not page-turners, at least not at first. But they have a kind of subtle, delicate beauty that slowly creeps in and takes hold of you, so that it's only toward the end of the books that you start to realize how completely they've drawn you in.
The part that really got me was toward the end of the third book,
when Morgon meets the High One in the tower.
"I didn't know you would give me everything I have ever loved."
Such a lovely line. And a lovely series.

Well spoken FF.

I couldn't agree more. Her writing is is like that of the most beautiful painting you ever have seen. You just want to watch it and explore every detail of it's beauty.
I am reading Od Magic right now. It took me a while, but I finally got a hard coer copy (only she and SRD do I deliberately do this for). The opening chapter is a wonder of prose. Absolutly beautiful writing...
I'll check back later with my full review...

I think my favorite of her books is Song for the Basilisk. I need to pick up some of these at some point. The only one I bought was the Riddle-Master Trilogy -- the others, I checked out of the library.
That said...I think the library near our new house has some of her stuff that the library near our old house didn't have. Definitely gotta get a library card *soon*...

Riddlemaster is one of my alltime fav fantasy series. In fact when I'm asked to list my top five, I fight between Covenant and that series in my mind as to which to list first.
However, I've been unable to get into her other books. Moonflash and the Forgotten Beasts of Eld were fair. I tried Ombria in Shadow and another one written in the 90s that I can't remember but could only get about 50 pages into each. I just don't find any of her books similar in style to Riddlemaster, and I guess that is what I am looking for.

OMG! Ombria in Shadow is one of my all tme faves now...! Loved it. So different than anything I have read and her style of writing flows like a stream .. elegant ..
