LM is correct, Will Wright has referred to Spore as a Massively Singleplayer Online Game because although you aren't competing directly against other players, the game continuously downloads other players' lifeforms to populate your game.
What concerns me about this game though, is the lack of any apparent progress. Spore is slated for release in the third quarter of this year, but that video is the one Wright presented at E3 2005, which was very nearly a year ago and new information is very scant indeed.
The official website has been improved quite a bit though and now has a cool intro cartoon:

Ah well, I don't care if they don't rush. Just the engine itself sounds awesome. Should be a lot of fun.

It's not the waiting that bothers me though, it's EAs habit of cancelling games for no good reason that's worrying.

And given that games cost more to make, the big companies will be less likely to support games that are more risky to sell. However, Will Wright has a very good rep with companies given the success of Sim City and the Sims.

Not good. Spore's initial Q3 2006 release is getting pushed further and further back. Apparently EA won't be showing it at E3 next month, but are planning to put on a show at E3 2007. Logically that suggests a summer/fall 2007 release at the earliest.
[edit]Of course, I could always be reading an April Fools' joke two weeks late

[/edit]
Although there is nothing confirmed for E3 2006, it's highly likely that they will be there. Will Wright has said that they now have a 70-strong development team and that early 2007 was probably a "more realistic" date than Q3 2006.
