Like time, text is an inherently one-dimensional thing. I also think SRD meant a greater sort of continuity.

For example, think of a computer game. If the rules of the game keep changing drastically and unpredictably according to your place on the map, the direction you're facing, the phase of the moon, the state of NASDAC, and the random number generator, so that one moment you're shooting at terrifying, blood-thirsty demons, and then you're throwing strawberries at them, and then you're fighting ninja strawberries with reversed controls, and so on, chances are you're not going to find the game very enjoyable. I've noticed that even my free-verse poetry tends to develop structures just because it's much better poetry that way.
