One thing: I have read that the characters Beren and Luthien in fact are Tolkien and his wife and their story retold in a new way (that must have been some Love!).
I presume that the story of Berek (and the queen) is not correlated to SRDs life?

Guessing not as that story was not developed very heavily, whereas the Beren/Luthien story was pretty well spelt out (see Silmarillion et al).
Might be interesting to drill SRD on whether Berek's Queen had a name, and if so, was it Lothial or something like that!
