I wouldn't even enjoy that, Duchess - I see some idiot writer completely destroying ST continuity with something like that.

When was that?
It was a comic I saw for sale years back.

I had not thought about that, but you're likely right. <sighs> :(

Also a book. I read part of it at the bookstore - didn't feel the need to pay for the thing. I can't recall what the actual plot was, except that the mutants had their own planet or something.

I really thought they were just going to drop the idea of another movie altogether, but to see that this is their brilliant plan... I think I'd rather have Rick Berman's hare-brained idea back on the table, if they insist on churning out a movie.

Quite frankly, I'm insulted. You don't mess with the foundation of Trek. It's not fair to the fans, it's not fair to the franchise, it's not fair to the actors, and it's not fair to Roddenberry's memory.

And really, you'd think that having their latest series cancelled would give these people a clue... or are they hoping for a rebirth from the ashes, as before? In that case, they've got a couple decades to go.

This may be heresy, but I honestly think the Trek universe has run it's course. There may be some point in the future that its worth revisiting, but for the time being, let it die.

I agree.

i agree with Cail. the Trek universe is too static. nothing changes. it seems the writers are too intent to not upset the applecart.

The writers, from all I've heard, would love to upset the applecart, but Paramount is run by control freaks who won't allow any changes to the Trek universe — not until those changes have been market-researched, focus-, studied in committee, tested, edited, retested, re-edited, critiqued by the producer's wife's hairdresser, and then tied into big bales of paper and stored at the bottom of disused peat bogs for at least 18 months.

This, needless to say, is a great way to prevent interesting stories from being written.

i always found the Star Wars novels more interesting than the films. we learned more background, explored different areas of that universe. I wish the same were true for Trek.

So lets have some ideas.
What would be some good apples to throw out of the cart?
Or what would be overturning the whole thing be for you people anyway?

Blow up the Earth?
The Federation breaks up?
Treble the Terrible Tribble?
What do you want to see that would make you jump up and run to see the movie?

I still like the Kirk-Bones-Spock Starfleet idea.
I posted on another thread how I think it could work.
No need to make it 90210 in Space either!!

I don't want another movie. This franchise has run its course. Paramount needs to accept that fact and stop churning out whatever random idea happens to make it through the screening process.

I'm with Alynna. I still say a movie about Romulus and Vulcan re-uniting would've been great, since that would've been similar to what happened in real life in 1989 when the two Germany's re-united. The best ST always imitated real life. However, that opportunity was wasted on the terrible movies Insurrection and whatever the heck the last one was called.

Well said. ST has become a trademark. How ironic given its original purpose.

destroy the federation. have the various star fleet ships going to wherever the crew wanted. new alliances, new enemies. screw the code of non-interference. if the Romulans can recruit a ship, let them. if Picard decides to blow up the Ferengi, go ahead. but have change, real change. if Worf dies, so be it. have Wesley command a ship of philosophers...

It'll be interesting to see how it's done, and who they pick to play young Kirk and Spock. I was pretty impressed by the two actors they got to play young Harry and Lloyd in "Dumb and Dumberer." They looked the part, and played the characters perfectly. (okay, the title explains it all, but you have to give *some* marks here for the character consistency)

I agree. I think that they could learn something from Firefly, like how to avoid a sterile universe. I actually liked the last year of Enterprise, but I think nowadays execs are quick to pull the plug on original ideas, and slow to pull it on overdone ideas.
