Right ;) It's a short local myth, I think most younger-generation people from Rome don't even know about it anymore... anyway, it goes like this. Foul, did you by any chance notice that the horse has a tuft of hair on its head that looks like an owl? Depending on what version of the story you know, either when all the goldening on the statue is gone or when the goldening completely covers it, the owl will hoot, the horse will neigh, and that will signal the end of Rome (or possibly the end of the world)...

I had to go back and increase the size of the picture of Marcus Aurelius. That tuft does look like an owl.

Those are excellent Stonehenge pics, LF! Worthy of stealing for use as desktop backgrounds. :)

If I weren't so madly in lust with Nathan Fillion I would do the same. Great Pix LF!

Wow, you were able to get much closer to Stonehenge than I was. When I went (at least ten years ago, now I think about it) we could just about see it, way off in the distance. That was as close as the fence allowed us to go.

I overheard that there's a time--maybe one or two weeks out of the year--when tourists are allowed to walk right up to it. Probably just a rumor, though. Even if it was true, I'll bet all the 19th century folk already stole the lightweight stones.

And yeah, Matrixman, I use one of my Stonehenge pics for a desktop background. This one (which I haven't posted until now):

Most of the pics I've taken don't mesh well with my desktop icons, but I've found that one to be amiable enough.

My next wave of pics will be from Oxford, Canterbury, and Bath. I don't want to post the Roman ruins just yet--would make everything after boring. ;)

Just finished looking through all of 'em in one sitting, LF! Mwa ha ha! (Yes, it's true, I don't have a life.)

Took me about an hour and a half, with minor interruptions. Listening to some Steve Reich music while perusing the pics made it a rather therapeutic experience. I saved a bunch for desktop background use (and for other nefarious purposes, of course).

Heh, feels kinda weird "touring" Europe via vacation photos of someone I've never met. (Did I mention I have no life?)

As most of you are well aware, my Britain-Italy pics are the best ever and received the MatrixMan seal of approval.

That said, they've changed link:

Hey LF, the fourth pic of the lunch place is oxford - can you remember if it's right beside Golders Green bus terminal?

Also, if anyone's interested, Google Earth apparently now has 3d ancient Rome.

3D ancient Rome? Will check out!

And yeah, it was in Oxford. No bus terminal I remember...but I do recall a tourist shop (shirts, etc.) and another eating place (mostly desserts, coffee).

Thanks for the update, Lord Foul. But now I have to register before I can see the pics?

Make sure the album is set to "Everyone," LF.
If that doesn't work then yeah, they'll have to join Facebook to see them. Unless you post them here, linking from your Facebook album.
