Absolutely Wadds! First stop is Chinatown so we can get some gorgeous Asian dresses and watered silk dragon bathrobes! :P AND of course all that decorating we will need to do in your new apartment. Have you started looking for an apartment yet?

A bit of the unexpected yesterday at work. My boss told us that he'd accepted a position in my old department and will take it up by the first of the year. It's time to take stock of my options.

After spending a week home between Thanksgiving break and the staph infection on his elbow, Beorn returned to school today with a supply of antibiotic and a note of dosage instructions to give to the school nurse, as well as a bandage over the elbow so the school doesn't send him back home (I hope). Hyperception is at work, and I have the house to myself again.

...B"H...

About friggin' time...

Maybe they want to give you a promotion.

Just a thought.

Or maybe they're fixing to give you a dolt for a new boss. I understand that's the usual procedure for the gummint. Anyway, hang in there, Damelon.

And you, Cag -- good going on kicking the habit! And Guns -- good news on your brother! And good luck with the new start, Lore. And good for you, Menolly, having the house to yourself again! Hugs all 'round, dammit! |G

Erm, well, as for me...

I was supposed to leave this coming Saturday for a trip to Spain to celebrate my 50th birthday. I think I mentioned that about three weeks ago, I stumbled over an uneven spot in the sidewalk and sprained my ankle. Well! Fast-forward to this past Sunday. Drove the girls back to college, took 'em to Kroger and out to eat for, y'know, their last meal (before dorm food again  ), said goodbye, and walked out of the dorm. There's a magnolia tree right outside the door and it's dropping seed pods right now -- big honkin' things, about the size of a tennis ball. Well, I stepped on one and went down. Again. Twisted the same ankle and banged up the same knee. Made a lot of noise ("AAAAAUUUGHHHH, NOT AGAIN!!!"). Many people came running; one fetched my kids; one called campus security. Perhaps dorkishly, I declined a rescue vehicle *again*, took 4 ibuprofen, duct-taped a bag of ice to my ankle, and drove home.

I was fine once the ibuprofen kicked in.

And it's not too bad now (thank goodness I was still wearing the ankle brace!). But I'm hesitant to traipse around Spain with a bum ankle. Soooo...I'm putting off the trip 'til March. Good news: changing the airline ticket, etc., etc., will cost me less than $100 net, and I'll be healthy by then (unless I do some other boneheaded thing in the meantime  ). Bad news: I won't be spending my birthday in a Moroccan bath, sipping mint tea. Oh, and I'll have to do actual Christmas shopping for all those folks I was going to buy cool souvenirs for.

Oh...ali.

Has this ankle given you trouble before? My right ankle has stretched ligaments from a very bad sprain when I was 12 years old, and until I took karate, it would sprain out from under me for no reason at all. Please do not rush the healing, keep it elevated and stay off it for as long as you can. Having a trick ankle is no fun.

Ouch, ali--two injuries in one place! Healing is often frustrating. For instance, my legs are incredibly sore from doing 350 pounds on a leg press (not bad, considering I weigh 187 right now). I used to do 700, when I was 250 pounds.

Ouchie! I hope it heals up for you quickly!

I'm also currently popping the Ibuprofen thanks to a trip out of a bus which has in turn let to my pelvic area shifted out of place so I feel your pain!

I'm feeling much better now.... <cue sixth sense imagery>

Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend I got together with friends and strangers for a party-kind-of-thingy. Either I got a bug from someone, or from some of the food I ate, or who knows. I got home about 4am, drank some water, and slept until about 7am. Went back to sleep, got up at 9am. At 9am, I wasn't throwing up, and with a stomach bug, there's only one other way your bodies flushing the junk out of the system. The rest of the day was naps and unpleasantness and showers and naps. I tried to drink some water on and off, forced some soup down before going to bed. I figured I'd be healthy monday morning for work. No such luck.

As I got dressed for work, I noticed I was running a fever.... and I wouldn't wish this cold on anyone, so I took the day off. Lots more naps, less unpleasantness, but the cold wasn't really gone until I woke up about 3am Tuesday morning drenched with sweat from the fever that must've finally wiped out whatever bug was bothering me.

Well, being missing from work for a day, everyone needed me as soon as I got back, but I've been going home on time and resting, and I'm almost feeling back to normal, can't wait to sleep in this weekend though.

Just finished a quick 15 minute presentation on my research at some conference on campus. Did all right, but it could have been a lot better. Blah.-jay

Off to the doctor again today (HOORAY!!! :P). I feel like I've spent the last year visiting quacks....and for someone who doesn't like doctors this is becoming a pain in the butt (or the hip pocket...or something...). Anyhoooowwwwww....

I feel at peace. I love living in my new place. It's quiet and surrounded by greenery (and near the Brisbane River). Relaxing.

Today I'm feeling pretty good. Yesterday I was running fevers and had a whopping headache from a sinus infection, but today, after a couple of doses of antibiotics, I'm almost back to normal. Medical science can be a wonderful thing. :)

Plus, last night we had our first significant snowfall of the year. We got about 1.5 inches. New snow always looks so beautiful, all fresh and clean, before the traffic turns it dingy grey. And it's not even that cold today, maybe 18 F, with only mild wind chills. The only thing I need to worry about today is the drive home from work. There's always a number of car accidents on the first snowfall day, presumably cause people forget you can't stop and turn as quickly on snow.... :?
