It is very good...and Danlo, I am thinking that the later books will not make as much sense if I haven't reread book 3 first...one of these days I am going to have to go after those last boxes from when we moved, my second chrons are somewhere in them, too, and I need to find them before the group read starts :?

Lord of Light is definitely on my to read list. Zelazny's excellent. Never considered any of the Earthsea books, but if they're as good as you claim maybe I should add them to my growing list.

Danlo, does your sister know livingwithrednecks? Nice guy. Lives nearby.

I just finished the first Dark Tower book. Interesting...kind of choppy...but I think I'm going to go ahead with the rest of them.

I'm about half way through Ilium right now and I love it! Very well written with properly placed humor and an engrossing story.

"Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet."

Nice work Furl's. Keep reading as they get better. The first was the weakest in my opinion. Let me know what you think as you read them.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. I'm finding the beginning of the "Drawing of the Three" hilarious. Roland is cracking me up..."tooter fish popkin" and "this clearing of the customs" ...LOL!! So far, it's good..only thru the first 100 pages or so tho. R/L keeps interupting me. :)

hmmm...some noticings as I come to the middle of "The Drawing of the Three" ... Roland gets two fingers of his right hand bitten off by the "lobstrocities"..and Odetta is insisting that her situation with Roland and Eddie is a dream.

hmmmmmmmm...who does that remind you of?? :)

Yeah, I remember thinking about that, too. Hellfire also said that in a book of short stories by King that she was reading a sentence said something along the lines of, "the scenery looked like something you might find in a novel by Stephen R. Donaldson." I think he's probably a fan.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

The One Tree. This would be the third time around. I take just about every excuse I can to re read TCTC. This time is prompted by a) exciting news about the third chronicles and b) that fact that I have found a Hard Back of The One Tree in good condition. I'm open to suggestions as to what to read after WGW.
