Prince.

I agree; I thought he was outstanding. It was awesome he brought out his guitar to play, and I liked the fact that aside from the two dancers, he was pretty much carrying the whole show. That was so much better than seeing a couple of hacks from American Idol ululating their way through an awful show.

Shoot, I've seen Prince live (he's literally about 2 feet tall), and the guy's an amazing guitar player.

Oh cool! I love this song!!! I have it on the Windam Hill Sampler '88.
I mentioned him in passing with Ottmar Liebert and Satriani.

Some folks said that he and Satriani, while technically brilliant, lacked a certain soulfulness. I might agree with them on Satriani, but I've silently disagreed about Hedges.

Sampler '88 also has songs by:
W. A. Mathieu
Shadowfax
Nightnoise
Montreux
and William Ackerman

Hedges wrote some amazing songs. Heart-breakingly beautiful compositions. No, it's not "soul" music. But it's certainly full of heart, or spirit, or whatever.

Isn't Hedges kinda "new age-y"?

well, Windam Hill is known for promoting 'new-agey' I don't care what it's called I just love Ottmar Liebert and Michael Hedges-even if they're classified such (...the wife can have Yanni :P ). Here's one of my fav Hedges.

Here's a higher quality version of Aerial Boundaries, Danlo.

And yeah, SOME of his stuff is kind of new age. But he does covers of Dylan, Beatles, etc. And his original stuff is really original. It's hard to classify.

Actually, since he incorportates a lot of medival sounding instruments into his compositions, you might say he's more "old-agey," than "new-agey."

Yeah, that's not bad. However, interspersed between his fancy picking, he does a lot of basic bar chords. No, I couldn't play the fast stuff. But I CAN play bar chords. Whenever I see musicians resort to this basic technique, I'm just ever-so-slightly turned off by them.

But to be fair, I'd have to give this more than one listen--and give this artist more than one song--to truly evaluate him. At this point, I'd say it's fine music. But doesn't move me.
