People laugh.
Well, according to wikipedia, modern usage includes using the term "as a proud or jocular self-description."
I'm from Florida. But I ain't no cracker.

And I hate it when men think that since I have two X chromosomes that I don't know anything about cars or computers.
I recently helped my friend buy a computer at the local BBuy store. I compared everything with her, went to find a salesman, who then proceeded to try to sell us everything possible. I counseled her to say no to everything. The guy took us over to the service desk place, where another guy came out to try to make her buy all kinds of crap. Well, we answered no politely to his questions for a few minutes before I got fed up. Then I said, "Look. I teach computer classes for X hospital down the road. If she needs something, I will take care of it." His mouth all but snapped shut, and he said, "Okay. . .thanks. I'll get that started for you right away." Then he left us alone.

His life is forfeit.

The city I live in deciding not to plow the roads, or even salt them, until it has stopped snowing... and we've been getting 8" of snow at least once per week for the last month. Driving conditions have been terrible.

Good one. Where I live the main streets are cleared when the snow stops, but the residential streets are frequently not cleared for 24-48 hours later. Three of four neighbors have lost mailboxes to skidding cars this year.

They've really been slacking on the snowplowing where I live. The funny thing is, once you cross over the county line, the streets are in perfect condition for driving.

They use a special "environmentally friendly" form of salt. I don't know the chemical formula or anything, but it supposedly is a different formula that doesn't cause any problems.

Time wasting activities that need to be done at work just so that it can be documented that all workers were trained.

Here's a pet peeve:
Today I was teaching a patient about feeding her baby and the doctor walked in to talk to her and interrupted me in mid-sentence, without even so much as an "excuse me."

Is that one of the perks I'm gonna get for the eight years of school?

Perk? no. . . those are the first-level parking garage spaces.
