Yeah, what in the hell was that movie supposed to be? A Comedy? A statement? I really don't get the point here. However, I did enjoy Bale's dissertations on Huey Lewis & The News, Phil Collins and Genesis, and Whitney Houston. Now excuse me, I have to return some videos.....
Now I know why I heard Montressor playing 'Hip to be Square' just a second ago.

A comedy, a thriller, and a statement. GREAT film. Bale's stand-out performance - and that's saying a lot.

Without spoiling the point of the film or the book, it's not really meant to be about a serial killer or a statement about serial-killing. Like everything Ellis does, it's basically about the world of yuppies (and a lot more). The serial killer aspect is only used to explain elements of his character.

I've posted this before but, damn, this has to be the funniest murder scene in a film ever: Paul Allen Scene

That's it; that's what I was missing. I got the sense the whole time I was watching it that it was based on a book, and that if I had read said book, I'd be understanding the film much better. I'm going to have to get the book now. And yes, I definitely think Bale did a great job.

Have you ever had someone spoil something for you with their own enthusiasm for the thing? My danish boyfriend adored Ellis, and this book. he talked about it incessantly, and then decreed we'd have to watch the movie when it came out. By the time I saw it I wasn't impressed. But it is a free world, and everyone is allowed his/her opinion. :D

Oh, yeah, for sure :)

I banned myself from watching Kubrick for 4 years because of the hype which surrounded him when he died, and because a very annoying person I knew happened to think Kubrick was the messiah. When I got back to watching his films, though, I had to admit the man was a master.

I swear Montressor was not talking about me!

Nah, I don't want messiahs, just good movies. And in my opinion, Kubrick made some of the very best! :)

We're supposed to actually try to get WGDs?

Well...

I gifted several items to people, and donated to others. If I hadn't my current WGD count would be at ~5K WGDs...

I'll get there.

...eventually...

(T.F.)
In a pawn shop in the Land
On a sunny summer day
A couple gazes at the used rings
There on display

(M.M)
She smiles n' nods her head
As she says, "Honey that's for you,
It's not much, but it's the best
That I can do."

Chorus-both
White Gold rings (white gold) with no tiny little stones
Waiting there (waiting there) for someone to take you home
By itself (by itself) it's just a cold metallic thing
Only magic can make a white gold ring

(T.F.)
In a little ur-vile chapel later on that afternoon
An old upright piano plays that old familiar tune

(M.M.)
Tears roll down her cheeks
And happy thoughts run through her head
As she whispers low, "With this ring, I thee pledge."

Chorus- both
White Gold ring (white gold) with no tiny little stones
Shining ring (shining ring) now at last it's found a home
By itself (by itself) it's just a cold metallic thing
Only magic can make a white gold ring

Ooo-ooo

(T.F.)
In a small two room cave
As they fought their final round
she says, "You won't admit it,
But I know you're leavin' town."

(M.M.)
She says, "One thing's for certain,
I don't love any more."
And throws down the ring
As she walks out the door

Chorus- both
White Gold ring (white gold) with no tiny little stones
Cast aside (cast aside) like the magic that's dead and gone
By itself (by itself) it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a white gold ring

(Both)
In a pawn shop in the Land
On a sunny summer day
A couple gazes at the used rings
There on display,
White Gold ring.

That was only one or two days. I am not posting at that rate now.
