I feel somewhat lost after missing last week.

I liked the idea of projection, and the tease that
Spoiler
Baltar might be a cylon.
Loved the naked Grace Park as well.

I'm not sure what to make of Saul. It appeared that his character was really geowing two weeks ago, now he's in the same old drunken rut.

Cool. Have you seen the MiniSeries Pilot yet? If not, you should get it, before watching S1 (Unless the S1 box set includes the MiniSeries)

The S1 box set (at least the Region 1 one) has the mini.

What's the spoiler policy here? Going to spoiler my post to be on the safe side, but since I finally caught up I'll probably be posting here more.
Spoiler
I've been trying to figure out what the effective range of the Resurrection Ship is - they don't seem to have any problem bringing back Cylons that've died on distant missions, but in the last episode it was easy to just 'keep it out of range'. Does that mean it was out of range anyway, and they routinely send entire Baseships off to potential permanent doom?

(Maybe I need to watch the episode again.)

Excellent question, Sorus. I don't imagine they have any firm idea for it, and are hoping nobody asks what you just did.

Sorus,

Some of us aren't up to date.

Although I'll admit, I just can't help myself. I read all the spoilers anyway.

But I do appreciate the effort you've gone to in spoilering your thoughts in the first place.

LM, you definitely want to see the miniseries first. That cannot be stressed enough.

Yeah, the series will be much easier to understand by watching the mini.

That's kinda what I figured... heh... I spend too much time thinking about these things!

Oh I did some years back, but I thought the box set had it. When I first watched the miniseries I wasn't too impressed. Anyway, I bought the miniseries yesterday and watched half of it last night. Very good! I have no idea why I didn't like it first time.

Eh, it was rather gratuitous in the Sex department and the idea of Human Cylons seemed like simply trying to get away with a cheaper effects budget. Plus the attachment to the original series. Easy to see why it wouldn't neccessarily strike people well upon initial viewing way back when.

I will say it seemed like Ron Moore was holding onto the past with one hand and trying to distance himself from it with the other. That actually continued throughout the first season with all the "remake" episodes (who'da thunk they'd have done a Galactica '80 remake?), and of course with Pegasus/Living Legend.

I thought the human cylons were utterly moronic the first time I saw the mini, but they sure make a lot of sense now.

Well, I just finished watching the miniseries. I think it's superb. Better than the original series. To be honest, I really dislike the original. The remake is simply great. Better Starbuck, for a start.

:goodpost: I could never get into the original.

(And I haven't seen the last episode yet, so much for being up-to-date. Heh. But Mary McDonnell is awesome.)

33 was a damn good episode but the last ten minutes were a bit weak.

There were two "versions" of the Season One DVDs - US and UK. UK came out first, so I ended up with both (when I like something, it seems I can't have enough copies - even if it's just different packaging, like book covers ... <grin>). I think it was the US version that included the mini series. The UK version had only Six on the box cover (with red glowing eyes), and the DVDs were in "pages" like a "DVD book." The US version had Six, but in the background to the right were Starbuck and Appolo, and the DVDs were all in individual thin cases that slipped inside the box. (or maybe I had the US and UK descriptions reversed - but the Season 2 and 2.5 sets I have match the second description, and I don't remember seeing the release location - so I assumed it was US since that's where I am ... those damn egocentric yankees! <grin>)

I loved what they did with the mini series. They told the story, but in a more modern format and with a different spin and focus on things. But I loved the original series as well. It's hard to watch them now because story telling and special effects have progressed quite a bit since then (for the story telling part, see one of Steve's recent Gradual Interview answers which I think relates). One of my biggest gripes with the old series was the obvious reuse of most of the special effects - the hand hitting the buttons in the cockpit, the destruction of the one cylon raider (one of a pair) as it swoops from right to left in front of the viper, etc. It's hard to believe that one of the big reason the show failed was because they were trying to do too much and the costs were too high (if I remember correctly from one of the interviews).

"33" was fantastic, and this is reinforced by the fact that it won a Hugo award that year. But when you see episode 303 (third one of season 3, which was "Exodus - part 2 of 2), you'll surely have a new favorite (or "favourite" ... <grin>). As gripping and compelling and powerful as "33" was, "Exodus part 2" has it beat hands down. WOW!

And the episodes since ... since everyone seemed to agree with my predictions on the subject in the past, I don't feel bad about saying, "Baltar ... I told you so!!" :-) But it's possible that the producers haven't figured it out for sure themselves yet. The one interview (or q&a, or something) noted that they did not (at that time) have a real identity for the person who met with Six on Caprica just before that attack. We never saw their face when Baltar walked away and Six turned and said something like, "it's about time." The producers assumed it was just a cylon agent, but didn't have any particular person in mind - but I'm sure they'll fill that in later when they can use it best. But they've been planting mystery seeds themselves (it seems) and just watch to see what grows from them. It's great!

Did anyone else find it interesting that the torture machine in the recent episode (307 - A Measure of Salvation) had an iPod-like interface (the click wheel)? That's strange, since people say that using Apple products are less painful than PCs. But then can you imagine a Windows interface for the torture machine? There's a Start button, and you're always in fear of getting the "blue screen of death" before you can finish your interrogation. (not trying to start a Mac/PC battle thread - just trying to run with the joke) I wonder what the Linux interface would be? :-)
