Mallory checked the chamber and found nothing but a smudged piece of paper. He tossed the gun away.
The castle lurched to one side as the impact of reentry buffeted the ship. Waves of unreality tore holes in the castle walls showing a giant near a stone monolith, a spaceship on hard burn, a castle, another castle, an orange guy with a bad toupee, yet another castle, a cookbook, a sudoku puzzle, another castle, and a weirdly shifting avatar filled with cats and balloons. Mallory screamed at the images, especially the orange guy, and ran deeper into the castle.
It must make sense. Something in this must-- No. God, no. He knew what it was.
Mallory ran to the kitchen and took the first knife he saw. From there, he ran to the chapel. He searched until he saw a robed woman clinging to a banister.
"What's going on?" she called out in terror. "What's happened?"
Mallory reached her. He grabbed the banister and raised the knife high.
"What's that for?" she asked, shrinking from him.
"Punishment," he said. "For what I must do." He stabbed the knife into his hand, pinning himself to the banister. The woman screamed and pulled farther away. "Now tell me," Mallory said. "Are you the nun Sequitur?"

At once, the woman's fright fell away. "Why yes, I am the nun Sequitur", said the nun Sequitur. Mallory yanked out the knife, and while his hand was dripping vermillion and cerise, he said "Follow me," and left the chapel. But the nun didn't follow. He should have known. Now Mallory was running out of options, and running out fast - fast like blood from an open hand wound.

Mallory staggered against a pew while the ancillary distortion passed through him. He turned back to the nun and grabbed her robe with his wounded hand.
"Sister, we need to go."
Still, she did not move.
"You have addressed me properly," she said, all fear gone from her voice. "You must be Mallory. I am required to ask a question. Do you know who it is now?"
He tore open her robe, exposing one of her various underrobes, and wrapped his hand with the torn cloth.
"Jesus?" he asked.
"That is not how he pronounces his name, but yes. Do you have an answer?"
"Are you really a nun?" Mallory said.
"What do you think?" Sequitur replied.
Mallory pulled her close, and kissed her. She did not surrender to his kiss, but she did not resist. He moved in for another kiss, but she stopped him.
"We are about to die," she said.
He laughed and said, "Sort of."
"Then you do know. Do what you must. Save us, and you can have more."
He let go of her and said, "That's not true either."
Mallory turned and ran to the throne room, the only place that made sense now. He didn't know the layout of the castle, but he found the room without error. He searched the throne and found a seatbelt stuck under the cushions. He sat down, locked the seatbelt in place and searched the armrests for a button or lever. He hit the lever accidentally, and a panel opened in the floor. A steering wheel rose up with three pedals and a stick shift. Shit. He hated driving stick. He looked out the window of the throne room, and saw a green hill rushing toward him. He threw the castle into neutral, grabbed the steering wheel, and hit the brake with both feet.

Transcript of last filed report: "I've landed. I'm roughly five kilometers from objective but its well hidden by the terrain. I'm also unlucky enough to have arrived during the planet's winter season and the conditions are not great. Once I make contact with Daniel King I will have what I need to complete my mission. If all goes well I will report back in seventy-two hours. I do have a strange feeling about this place. Like I've been here before. Possibly a memory from an earlier version. I don't know. Wait, I hear someone coming, Mallory out."

The message popped up on the castle GPS just as the structure slid to a halt. Mallory tapped "Agree and Terminate". He had never liked that clone. They got the nose all wrong.
He unbuckled from the throne and climbed down. He considered going back to the nun for some more action, but she was probably gone by now. He walked out to the courtyard in time to see Ginger take off in a jet. When the hell did she get a jet? Whatever.
"Mallory!" Kickenpants said. "You're under--"
Mallory punched him in the face, breaking his nose for a fourth time.
"No, I'm not," Mallory said.
He exited the castle gates, climbed down the remains of the drawbridge, past the vacuum decompressed crocodiles, and made his way to stable ground. He tried to remember how this had started. He thought it had something to do with a flower, but he couldn't remember what. He couldn't remember half of what had happened to him. Maybe he could leave it for the next guy and look for the nun. She was a little cold, but she had nice lips.
Suddenly,--
No you don't! No "suddenly" until I get some action!
Now then, if I were an invalid argument, where would I go?

Mallory concentrated, hard. It made his head hurt and he felt a bit dizzy but after a few moments the sensation passed. Then he realized he'd completely forgotten what he was trying to think of. He felt suddenly disconnected from reality. Everything around him appeared fake, artificial. He tried to clear his head and recover his purpose but it was like trying to churn butter with only one hand or make cookies without an oven. Without any other option Mallory began walking. As he wandered across the uneven terrain he repeatedly turned back to glance at the castle to gauge how far he had traveled.
"Looks like about twenty meters so far."
Mallory blinked repeatedly as piercing fingers of light reached out between the branches and leaves of the nearby trees and poked him in the eyes like a Three Stooges routine. .
"Looks like about two hundred meters."
Mallory stumbled over the root of a tree but maintained his balance.
"Having trouble seeing the castle. Only the top spire is visible above the treeline."
Mallory began to whistle.
"Why am I talking to myself?"
Mallory began staring at his feet as he walked.
"I'm hungry."
Mallory stroked his belly trying to quiet the little monster growling within.
"I wan't my Binky."
Mallory regressed.
"Where am I going?"
Mallory started to wander aimlessly in circles.
"Who am I?"
Mallory stopped. He looked around, puzzled and confused until he spotted a small church a short distance away at the end of a narrow, dirt path. Mallory could see that the front door was open and there was someone standing just inside, covered by the shadows.
"Hello?" Mallory croaked quietly. Thirst had stolen away his voice.
"I thought you'd never get here, Mallory. Come in and have a seat." Someone whispered.
Mallory heard a dog barking in the distance. He wondered what breed the dog was. He liked golden retrievers but he couldn't remember why.
"Don't be afraid, Mallory. I won't hurt you as much at you think I will." The voice whispered again.
Mallory noticed that there was a small, wooden, gargoyle statue sitting on top of a post near the front door of the church. He smiled absently and then shuffled down the path and passed through the open door. Someone Mallory couldn't see immediately closed the door behind him plunging the room into near total darkness.

Without fully realizing that he had previously fallen asleep the moment the lights went out, Mallory suddenly awoke to find that his brain had been removed, surgically and with a precision he had never seen in all the years he had not been a brain surgeon. After a moment's contemplation, Mallory began to wonder how he was able to "wonder" without a brain in the first place which perplexed him ever so much.

One Sentence Or Paragraph At A Time Story
Warden Walk Through 7-7-2023
Both wardens walked through today. The warden saw trays being made on the line, thinking we were staging food, but trays were being made in the presence IDR inmates. Warden wanted us to mop but there are no mop heads on the unit. Vault 6 is still down currently being worked on. One tablet was confiscated from an inmate by 01 on the cook floor. Wardens walked through the deep freeze vault with Morales. No complaints with the reefer but spoke with Morales about the ice machine not working. No updates on the ice machine at this time. 01 authorized the distribution of 20 emergency ice bags to the building. Two inmates were fighting in the pot room prompting an ‘A’ response while the wardens were in the chow hall. Both inmates were placed in hand restraints and taken to lock up. A Tupperware container with food in it was found by 01 on the back dock by slop wagon. He addressed Officer Boone about being back security and making sure he does his security checks.
