Derek has changed a bit - dare I say matured some? I've seen him show actual management skills in recent history. Eh, I get along with him. I try to get along with everyone, mainly by being neutral. Of course, being neutral means everyone wants you on their side.

I think you might be right about that Sorus. He seems to have mellowed a bit. I think I am going to sit him down tomorrow and talk about letting bygones be bygones and working together and concentrating on the team. Granted I know we will still butt heads but at least we can do it from a clean slate.

I keep forgetting to go to my Google+ page.
Edited to add: Oh, and I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open this afternoon. I went to bed late to start with, then more or less dozed until Magickmaker went to bed around 2:30am. She didn't make a *lot* of noise, but it was just enough to wake me up. Then I couldn't get to sleep again 'til nearly 4am. And the alarm went off at 7am, as usual.

Just returned from my appointment with the breast surgeon regarding the results of the MRI scans. And wouldn't you know, the radiologist was unhappy with this third try as well! So, another uncomfortable, on-my-stomach MRI is going to be scheduled.
The story this time is that the employee whose job it actually is to position me properly was on vacation last week, when the previous attempts were done. S/he is supposedly back, and will be there when I am rescheduled. I'm not so happy to have yet another IV for contrast stuck in to my veins, but may as well get this all over with.
Other than waiting on a clear MRI, the surgeon I saw says based on all of the other screenings done, she doesn't see any current need for concern, although I had a "difficult" exam. Her recommendation for now, pending nothing showing on the next MRI, is another mammogram and follow-up exam in six months. Here's hoping for a clear scan!

I hope so, too.Menolly wrote:Here's hoping for a clear scan!

Thirded.
I hear ya. All other concerns aside, the last thing I need is something else to check on and update. Hell, I rarely check my email.Murrin wrote:I don't think I'm made for this social networking thing.

We are all hoping for a clear scan, Menolly. Congrats on the move, Jaz.
I had a rather nice day at work again. For the second day, Derek has been seeking me out and telling me things he's done but not in an arrogant way, more like he's seeking my approval and trying to impress me with his new skills and behaviors. I spent a good portion of my afternoon printing order forms that the copy center SHOULD have been using all along and trying to take stock of what needs to be organized, basically everything. As I was working on this, Derek came into the copy center and was helping me and I told him that I wanted to make an in store simple quote form for us to use. I also told him that I planned to keep a binder and keep copies of the written quotes we give to customers in it so that if I quote something and the customer comes back and I'm not there, my peeps can easily find it. He thought that was a great idea and asked how I wanted the form to look. I wrote out a quick version and he made it for me without my asking. I tweaked it a bit from the first draft he showed me and it's now perfect. Frankly I was a little surprised but in a very good way. He also offered to help me organize. I told him I need to figure out how I want to change things and that more importantly I need to get some things cleaned out before I can start to truly effectively reorganize. Then I spent some time with him in the office and I just started grabbing lp management binders and checking them and updating them as needed and he seemed very appreciative and we talked about our audits and stuff and during the conversation he told me he was really glad to have me back. He's glad to have someone who knows what they are doing in the copy center and can manage it correctly and also to have my skills at operational stuff he apparently didn't know about. I told him I was going to put my skills I learned from Ashlee to good use since I just came off a stint as a floor/operations manager at the 18th top ranked store in the country. Anyway, I'm rather liking this turn of events.

Thanks, y'all. I appreciate your good thoughts regarding this.
No call to come in from the MRI center today; however I did get in to the chiropractor and my rib cage is feeling much better already. I am hoping to be able to sleep through the night instead of waking due to a spasm there when I try to roll over. Maybe I'll be lucky and the pulled muscles around the ribs will have a chance to heal before I need to lie in that horrid position again.
Glad to hear you are moving, Jaz. Care to tell us about your new house?
Jenn, it is so good to hear some positive things in this thread. I hope we continue to hear the same from you for a long time to come!

well..........
news from the wetfront....lots of it
the good and the bad. Good - I found out the the bank picked up my flood insurance, so I have flood insurance. The Bad - The policy I have doesn't have 'content' on it. And guess what.........a furnace, a water heater, freezer, pool pump, fridge, etc are .....yep.......content. So I am back to go. I have to replace everything on my own buck. (sigh)
Next - I have been offered a new job. It's with the NYC Dept of Health. Director of housing for the mentally ill in nyc. High pressure job. Its not really a promotion, more of a parallel move. Would mean an 8% raise. I doubt I will accept it. The only reason to take it is the effect it would have on my pension. If I stay at that position for these last three and a half years it would mean an additional 10 grand annually when I leave. But I don't think that is enough of a reason to take the slot. not sure.
Lastly, we are under another flood watch and may have to evacuate again. At least there is not much to lose this time.

I had another good day at work. I got a lot of crap cleaned out. Granted the copy center looks messy but it's essentially getting organized (got to tear it up to rebuild it). I cleared out a good part of the filing cabinet of old crap and it looks like rather than filing stuff, Ryan just threw paperwork away randomly or just shoved it in to any old file. Some of the files still only had stuff I had filed when I worked at this store before. When I explained how the filing system is supposed to work to several people who were shocked to see the drawer even open, they were actually excited to have an easy understandable system for keeping track of orders. I also cleaned out the clusterf--k that was supposed to be the customer order cabinet. I just mercilessly threw stuff out but checked with several people on some of the un-dusty stuff which ended up getting saved. There was actually an un-picked up order that I had placed myself still in the cabinet from when I worked there OVER a YEAR ago!!!! Bryce, one of the people who backs up the copy center was so excited about all the changes and organization that he was asking a billion questions about stuff. Earlier when I started cleaning the files out, asked me what was even in that drawer and when I explained it to him he was really happy and told me again that it was great to have me back. Basically I am mirroring the OD proper way of keeping track of orders and paperwork and it's really simple so that if I am not there, ANYONE can help a customer find out their order status. On the down side, I did have to tirade about my pet peeve of leaving specialty paper in the trays after you perform a print job. I tempered it with humor and ended it with, "I'm your manager, NOT your MOTHER so don't expect me to be willing to clean up after you guys, we are all adults here but if you can't handle it the alternative is worse and trust me when I say, you guys DO NOT want to make me store use another wooden yardstick for smacking you if you don't clean up after yourselves in MY copy center, UNDERSTOOD????"
Anyway, more cleaning and organizing awaits me tomorrow. I need to finish the filing system then I plan to tackle the overstock closet. I also need to order some supplies. Then I need to figure a better system for the proper ordering forms since there is no place for them currently so they are in a temp organizer set off to the side. Then after I figure that out I need to go back through and relabel all the drawers and cubbies for paper with a much clearer layout than I did when I did much of this before. Also, it's kinda fun. I like projects.
