I feel like crap. Woke up and threw up. Now I'm lying around in bed reading comics.

Ugh. :?

Hope you get feeing better soon, Balon! :D

I've felt better. I've been dealing with case of bronchitis, and then I found out today (by accident) that others are higher than I am on the list to hire for the full-time position I've applied for. *shrugs* Now I"m working on my resume so I can submit it for other jobs tomorrow. :?

Hope you feel better, Balon and Wyldwode.

Balon - at least you've got comics, right?

Wyldewode - Sorry about the job, but at least finding out gives you a chance to get started looking for another position sooner than you would otherwise.

Well, started ok. Restoration company replaced damage roof section and is almost done re-shingling the entire roof.

Power is off upstairs, so I am downstairs on an airmattress.

That would all be good ... but I feel MISERABLE ... :( Started getting fatigue, sore throat, feverish, achy, all around yucky!! Wonder if I picked up a bug on the plane last week

*sighs* :( I hate being sick!!

Hope all the sickies feel better. I feel good because I had a customer overhear part of my conversation on the phone about buying some cd's after work and it sparked a convo about how I LIKE to own the cd and I don't mind paying for music I like which in turn led to a conversation about which cd's I was gonna buy. Turns out my customer is a jazz musician by night and plays in various groups around town. Anyway, I had to admit that I was going to go buy some Michael McDonald cd's and some Kenny Loggins cd's. I started to explain the show "Yacht Rock" and he had already seen the original ten. I told him they made a new episode and he was gonna go watch it when he got home. That made me smile, bigtime!

I'm sad and frustrated. Wished I would have learned Spanish when I had the chance. I know a little bit, but there's a whole other world of writing that's inaccessible because I only know English.

I'm used to being interviewer. Been a looong time since I was interviewee. NOT looking forward to it.

Good luck to you too. Yes, retail does suck your soul dry.

For the current job - in your opinion, are they getting rid of excess people, and will soon upswing again, or is this a sign of something more serious? Does the company think they can shrink themselves to sales success?
Yeah, that's a good point. As hellish as four hours a day on public transportation sounds, it'd be better.
Problem is, it's STILL retail. And I don't even know if she's hiring.

As to the second, the new CEO's radical new plan that we're all (well, all the survivors) are supposed to be embracing is: "Cut payroll and increase income!" Translation: "Your money is going in MY pocket!"
This after we took a big cut last year when the old CEO took an early retirement and a HUGE bonus.

That's what happens when you work for a big corporation. They don't see their employees as people.

The worst part of it for me is that I am the only one at my location to be affected. And to me that is not logical. We have two (two!) merchandising people who show up whenever they want to, and spend all day sitting around chatting. I did that job a few years back, and I did it solo. I'm not personally advocating firing one of them, but I can't help but think they are a more logical target. (Waaiiit.... trying to apply logic to upper management? I really must need more sleep. )

What do I do? Payroll, miscellaneous HR, supervise security, manage cash handling, manage the office... I could go on. Fact is, that's a full-time job that will still need to be done. And there is no one else there that knows how to do most of it. They're throwing away my years of experience and training, and will end up having to train someone to do it anyway.

My attitude right now is that I have a good resume and I probably don't need to limit myself to retail.
The problem is that I can't afford to be without a job for very long, and retail is easy to get into. I never intended to spend eight years in that job. No way. But once you're in and you're secure, it's harder to venture back out into the world of scary unknowns and freakin' interviewing. I want to do something that I will enjoy, something that means something, something that pays better.... And I have no idea what that is. 8O

Sooo... that's basically my answer there. Look for that something, and if I don't find it pretty quickly, go to Plan B.

Thanks for listening, and |G to anyone else that needs 'em, looks like a lot of you are having a bad week too. :(

Sorus, I don't know about other schools, as I only worked at one, but it sounds like you could easily get into either an accounting or human resources department at the athletic department of a university. At least, if there was an opening at UF's University Athletic Association, you would be hired in a flash. As the assistant to the controller, I saw who was hired for accounts receivables and accounts payable, I saw who worked in HR. It sounds like you got them all easily beat.

As you put your resume together, try to think outside the box. All sorts of businesses use people with your skills. You need to find out what the names for those positions are, and target them.

Good luck!

I feel pretty okay. The last two books I did were approved without any changes (*gasp!*) and I just bought a giant squshy bed at long last. It makes my bedroom look small but I guess I'll get used to it.

I also feel good about lurking at the Watch again. It's a nice place.

Yay, jwaneeta! I covet a squishy bed. Mine is several years old, and was pretty cheapish when I bought it. It doesn't give me back problems or anything, but I just want a nicer one. Maybe someday! :P

I've drawn that often (see art thread) but it's just not the same. *sobs*

Oh, Forestal! Tell me of your vocation!

Koff. Erm. Excuse me. I'm just a Forestal fangirl.

Nothing against our Forestals, but I'd take your work any day! And don't turn your nose up at charity. . . it helped me buy my firelion. The Forestal I earned by myself, though. :D

The server kicked me out, but I just want to say:

Go you, go Forestals, go forests!

And you can't say fairer than that. :)
