Hearts of Space radio program
#833:
Generations
INTRO :
By our count, this is the 40th program in the HEARTS of SPACE series inspired by the wistful charms of the Celtic ballad. The big trend in Celtic music has receded, but we return to it, not only to honor the Saint Patrick's Day celebration, but because it's so musically and emotionally rewarding. Celtic music has deep roots in the human experience, lovingly shared and developed from generation to generation.
On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, we continue our journey in the pan-Celtic soundscape with a program called GENERATIONS.

Odin's Dream
INTRO :
This week we continue our retrospective series "25 YEARS IN SPACE," celebrating our 25th year of national broadcasting. We've selected 25 shows that give an overview of the HEARTS of SPACE series and our style of ambient, space, and contemplative music. We'll be featuring one retrospective show from the series each month.
On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, we journey to far north soundworlds, with a 1986 program inspired by Nordic mythology called ODIN'S DREAM. The title of our featured album WUNJO, by GILES REAVES, was inspired by the Nordic gods chronicled in RALPH BLUM's BOOK OF RUNES.
It's the far north sound of emptiness...and fullness... on this 25th anniversary transmission of HEARTS of SPACE.

Get Awkward, the second album by Be Your Own Pet. On a first listen, it has a similar sound and tone to the first album (though the songs on this one generally have a longer running time--the tracks on the first album were almost all under two minutes), but there aren't any songs--except, perhaps, "Becky"*--that stand out in the same way that certain songs--"Adventure", "October, First Account", "Ouch"--on the first album did.
*It's unfortunate to note that "Becky", along with "Black Hole" and "Blow Yr Mind", were removed from the US release of the album by Universal's lawyers for being "too violent".
