To me that is how all the Doctor Who should be. I think many of the Doctor Who episodes are a bit kiddy and Mediocre, featuring quite lame cameos from EastEnders and *shuggers* Catharine Tate. That episode had mystery and a bit of horror... plus it makes you watch. I am not saying Doctor Who is bad but it could be loads batter.

I guess I watch the show in a more blissful way? Because the cameos you speak of, and the British pop culture references that may annoy some, mean nothing to me. I'm looking at it from the "outside" so all those things are just a "natural" part of the show to me.

I find it quite annoying and not needed in Doctor Who. I like the dark and creepy episodes. I wasn't really impressed in the 3-part final espisode, though everyone says it was great.

The dark and creepy is being handled just the way it always has been on Doctor Who. If you want consistant dark and creepy, watch Torchwood (is that still airing?).

Torchwood is quite possibly the worse programme I have ever seen. I watch the first episode and was bored but I thought I would give it another chance. Watched the second and was bored again.

Well said. It's become a childish, camp piece of soap. There's no weight or depth to it, it lacks suspense, and the music is over the top. Russel T Davies has an annoying tendency to re-use ideas (how many season finales are we going to have where there are swarms of flying machines invading the world?). Overall, the show has taken a downward turn for the worse. I just can't watch it anymore. And this is coming from someone who was a fan for over twenty-five years, has met two Doctors (that is, the actors who play the Doctors) in person, and has many Doctor Who dvds.

I could write stories for Doctor Who. The problem is that the writers seem more interested in making it funny and seeing how many BBC stars they can fit into the Script. All the cameo stars and senses are all big on the BBC only... like the BBC is trying to justify that they great channel through having these crappy cameos of Doctor Who, when most of the shows are either costume drama mainly set in an Pride & Prejudice setting, dark family drama usually about brothers and sisters holding dark secrets, and poor cops and robbers crime drama. The only good programme I have seen on the BBC is Heroes.
The new Doctor Who seems to be far to attached to Rose and seems to cry every time he hears her name and everything seems to be a giant joke.

Then why make the new series? Besides, during Ecclestone's season, I was very happy with the show - stories like 'The Doctor Dances' and 'The Empty Child' were great, as was 'Dalek'. The show does have clever stories. However, Tennant's portrayal of the character quite simply is awful. And the majority of his stories are bad.

Before watching a dvd last night I thought I'd watch the second last episode. You are spot on, Queea. The master's character was pretty dire - he seemed more of a comedic villain like Blackadder and there was no sense of threat.

And ho! Swarms of flying machines for the finale! Just like the swarms of flying Daleks over London in last year's finale, and the swarms of flying Daleks over Earth in Eccletson's season . . . .

I've gone back to watching the older episodes of Doctor Who. There was a show that wasn't camp, the doctor had 'weight', there wasn't this intrusive soundtrack, and the stories long and involving.

Interesting to note the lack of defense for the series.

I watched the season finale. What the hell was that? I'm sorry, but words cannot describe how poorly written that was. Besides major plot holes, the Doctor's sadness for the Master was unbelievable. The Master kills 10% of the Earth's population, enslaves the human race, tortures the Doctor for a year, beats his wife up, etc . . . . and when he's dying the Doctor cries and quotes stories where the Master had attempted to kill the Earth as somehow they were fun adventures.

Okay, yes the Master is another time lord, but if it was me and the last human who had massacred an alien species and tortured me, the last thing I'd do is cry. Plus, it conflicts with the Doctor's previous actions; he's more than willing to become vengeful and angry over less, so why the hell is so upset? Because Russel T. Davies is a very melodramatic writer.

Crap doctor, melodramatic stories, plot holes, unoriginal finales . . . the show's reached a low that it has never reached before. The good news is that the series is going on hold until 2010 as Tennant has to do other work. Maybe the writers will get their act together and produce quality tv, not just a show which is all about having fun and is aimed for kids.

Is Dr. Who reducing in S4? I thought S4 was a full 13 plus the Christmas Special, and then S5 was the reduced season?

prefer david tennant to christopher eccleston too ..

but really couldnt be arsed getting into a whole 'thing' about it; used to watch the series during the tom baker years as a kid (the show used to scare me back then !) - I downloaded a couple of old tom baker episodes the other day and was pretty much bored by them, not as good as I remembered ..

as for the Doctor crying over the Master's demise, I thought it was because he was the only other Time Lord besides the Doctor himself; and his death meant that the Doctor would be the last of his kind - the Doctor is a lonely soul !
.. also, it his actions in destroying %10 of the Earth's population were possibly forgiven because it pretty much never happened after the whole paradox thingy was reversed ...

I liked John Sim as the Master too, really eccentric performance *shrugs*

btw, Torchwood got a *very* brief run on commercial tv here in Melbourne at a good timeslot - I dont think people knew what to make of it; it was quickly relegated to a midnight timeslot
I've only seen bits and pieces, didnt really grab me, though to be fair I really didnt give it much of a chance ..

ah; sorry, I looked back through the whole thread last night and saw that you'd come to that conclusion - anyway, sorry if I came across as a smart-arse at all; was genuinely unsure why you'd continue watching when you seemed so disappointed in the direction it was heading ..
