Latest acquisitions:
- Olympos, Dan Simmons (read)
- Iron Council, China Mieville (read)
- Runes Of The Earth, some guy (read)
- Pandora's Star, Peter F Hamilton (processing...)
- Red Mars, Kim Stanley Robinson (still on shelf)
I'd like to get A Feast for Crows as well, because Martin got me back into Fantasy after long years of absence, but I think I'm going to wait. Right now I already have The Third Chronicles which isn't finished yet, and I cannot stand that.

I've decided that since I have Elric of Melniboné, I might as well read the whole Eternal Champion series in the recommended reading order, so today I bought:
Volume 1: Von Bek
Volume 2: The Eternal Champion

Ainulindale, I assume you don't have to pay for these books, given your opinion of Newcombe? Do you have to review it, or is that by choice?

I paid for
Magic Seeds (bought it locally), the rest were free. I don't really differentiate with the aquisitions (regarding whether I pay for them or not) when I post in this thread.
I'm going to offer the Newcomb book to another admin at FBS who has read his prior books, to see if he wants to review it. I couldn't read past book II (
Gates of Dawn ) or I think I would have given up on humanity or at the very least publisher credibility.
To answer your question however, no I'm not at all obligated to review anything. I do however, make sure I review books that I personally ask for. I asked for the VanderMeer, and the Moon is an ARC which I'm interested in.

I just got my Income Tax refund and went nuts ! lol
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
and...
The "Dark Tower Box Set" which is the first four books in the series.
Anyone read any of these books I've purchased ?
I bought them entirely based on synopsis and a few reader reviews...but I figure since most of you like the same stuff as I do, you'd give me a better idea of what to expect out of them.

I love the Dark Tower series. Reactions vary widely though.

You'll just have to read them, and decide for yourself. Join us in the Stephen King forum in the Library and tell us what you think.

Martin is one of my favorite fantasy writers.

He had me hooked from the moment we meet the Stark kids.

In addition to the ASOIAF series, he also has some quite wonderful stand alone science fiction and historical fiction/horror novels.
I enjoyed the King series, though I thought it had its ups and downs (as all series do if they get long enough). I thought the fourth book in that series might be the finest book King has ever written.

I also just treated myself with that same book.

I have only had time to read one chapter, but it already has me.
Bakker is a damned good writer; and this book finishes his trilogy, for those like me who prefer to start series that are finished.

I have heard that there are plans for future books set in the future of this world, but for now this particular story arch is completed.
