Just finished Joe Abercrombie's THE BLADE ITSELF. I found it refreshing, somewhat of a throwback to fantasy books of the 80s. Much more humorous in tone than I thought it would be, though.

I am just about to start Against the Day by Thomas Pynchon. I am uber-excited!

I just read Stephen King's newest short story in Playboy, called Willa. Yeah, I know, I gotta be the only guy who picked that magazine up for the fiction in it. 
The story is mediocre, IMHO, one plot twist, but it's in the first third of the story. The rest is a mood piece, and I'm more into an exciting and well-paced tale myself.
Well, at least I have the other perks of Playboy to check out now.

Just Started Guy Gavriel Kay's The Wandering Fire.
The second in the Fionavar Tapestry series.
It runs along the same lines with TCOTC and Narnia, as there are people going back and forth between our world and the fantasy world.
There are a number of fantasy cliche's in it...like some fairly convinient prophecies; a dying king, a drunk womanizing prince, elven-like peoples, and even orc-like people.
The cool part about the story is the tie-ins with the real world; something you don't really see with TCOTC--I just read the part when they where at Stonehenge and had to summon a dead King of England back to life in order to find person's name that they needed in Fianovar.

Just finished Brian Ruckley's WINTERBIRTH, which has to be one of this year's finest debuts.
Fans of GRRM and dark and gritty fantasy tales should enjoy this one. Not similar to GRRM in terms of story, but very similar in style and tone.
Add this one to your Christmas present list!

Wizard and the Glass. Its awsome! Cant believe I ever put the Gunlsinger down the last time I started and failed to get all the way through. Ive been losing sleep! (from reading)

Just finished Jay Lake's Trial of Flowers (a bit meh, though some nice stuff scattered within), devoured Margo Lanagan's Red Spikes as soon as I slid it from the mailer.
Now working on K.J. Parker's Evil for Evil and interspersing with bits of Vera Nazarian's Salt of the Air and possibly Murakami's Blind Woman, Sleeping Willow -- I thought I finished that but was in the midst of a discussion with a friend and realized I might have skipped over a couple stories; thinking to return and then getting distracted.
Then it will be back to working on the ever growing pile of 2007 ARCs that seem to find their way to my shelves. Especially as rumors of The Children of Hurin making its way, my way rather early are growing louder.
