Um, yeah. I think I'll just stick to defense and city planning. *slowly backs out of the room*
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

You didn't use Laurel to do it, that's for darn sure.
And the one I sent to help apparently was not needed, or so I have heard. So...

:|

...still waiting for him to return to get an official report, though.

Whether Krinn actually did it with Laurel's help, or I just imply that she helped... no matter how hard you try to deny she helped, you'll only make people believe you're hiding something.

The inquest would probably go something like this:

Weatherby: "Do you deny that you sent a spy to work with Krinn in Aswan?"
Laurel: "I wouldn't call him a spy..."
Weatherby: "Just answer the question. Did you, or didn't you, send someone with all the skills of a spy?"
Laurel: "Yes, but..."
Weatherby: "Thank you. And after that, did Krinn lead an invasion of the village?"
Laurel: "There was no invasion. He just went there..."
Weatherby: "So, you admit that after you sent the spy to help Krinn, he walked boldly into the village, without anybody accompanying him?"
Laurel: "Yes?"
Weatherby: "Is it yes, or is it no?"
Laurel: "Yes, then."
Weatherby: "And then, somehow Azver's fighters happened to show up, including Azver himself."
Laurel: "You'll have to ask Azver that."
Weatherby: "Very well. We will. But to your knowledge, after you sent the spy to Krinn, Krinn went alone into the village, and then suddenly Azver's men were killing everyone in the village."
Laurel: "I guess so..."
Weatherby: "And yet, you claim to have had no part in this massacre?"
Laurel: "That's right."
Weatherby: "This committee has no further questions for you."

Weatherby's a bitch . That's a best-case scenario.

It sounds like its time
To shred operational
Records and memos

But in primitive
Societies, there are no
Shredders to be had

What can do the job?
You sure can’t trust a Goat, nu?
It spits up its cud

Young deer eat paper
You’d need a room full of them
Yes, try a Fawn Hall…

A great way to practice double-sword technique is to throw a piece of paper into the air, and see how many pieces you can cut it in before they hit the floor.

If it's a pre-literate culture, shredding the documents is sort of the same as when the mob starts killing all all the witnesses.

Once again, something Krinn might be good at...

My understanding is the educated can read, but books, or possibly even scrolls, are rare. Basically, a lot of learning is done orally, via epic songs and poems...

It only takes like... four books, to make one.

So they get the four books, and then can crow about how they're all elite, 'cause they've got libraries of their own.

If we build a university, we'll be "publishing."

Updated the map on the map thread but I left the old one up on the world events thread. I also added Ianua but I didn't update the PPs. I'll do that another time.

Thank you to Blackhawk for making a really cool map. I think he's still working on adding the wall and a few other details but it was so cool I wanted to post it. :)

So glad my asking him to make one worked out!
:hearts:

Based on the one he did for the first Acropolis, I imagine there's a really large one somewhere which would show the details better? If so, I have a paid photobucket account I would be happy to upload it to.

Lovely map! :)

A question - or more like a few - on books and scrolls and general property. The prophets, I guess, are supposed to have some property of their own - like any normal villagers, possibly with some variations, is that right?

Likely a house with all the necessary things inside, maybe a few things specific to them - how are such hings supposed to be introduced into the game, by simply mentioning, if that's something that was supposed to be there to start with, by making obtaining it a part of the turn, if that's something else, correct? I have old scrolls and tablets mentioned in my character introduction, is that fine? Can I use them, should I supply more information?

Menolly, may I ask, have you tried to post images above 3000 px tall to Photobucket? I tried, but it appeared to chew down the size  - but maybe I missed something. Got to admit, I didn't try looking for a solution there much, decided to upload to DA better anyway, I think it's a pretty good place for any original work, maybe the map can be uploaded there, if Blackhawk doesn't mind. Haven't you seen the new pics, by the way?) In the Chrons Gallery and the Gap forum)

If you were a baker, it would stand to reason that you would have some basic baking equipment - an oven, flour, sugar, butter, pans, rollers, etc.

So, you would most probably have a dwelling.

Can we please not go off topic? Thanks.

Clear about the dwelling, and what about the scrolls and tablets? I mentioned them earlier and it follows the parallel with a baker pretty well - if I'm a magician, I have my equipment, and that may include information on magic in general, descriptions of rituals and customs, specific spells, other related things.

And I thought it wasn't really straying far, I apologize if it turned out so, Menolly proposed Photobucket for the map and I'd rather recommend DeviantArt - though certainly it's just a suggestion, maybe I just can't use Photobucket well)

If it has something to do with your profession, then yes, you would have the basic accoutrements. You aren't going to have any spiffy or special items yet so please refrain from assigning yourself special abilities or skills. Since you are starting out in the game, think of yourself as right out of magician's school - you have been taught but have no real experience. So, as for scrolls, think of them as textbooks.

I was mostly meaning their existence at all - sure I don't want myself to immediately have a scroll with a "destroy or conquer the whole world" spell on it) I mean even not that much spells, it's more about the background, an explained source of in-game stories, inner mythology and also something to get into the library) Looks like too early to supply it with a copy of the Necronomicon, but something interesting for the people to read may slip in))

I can write something like the contents of some of them, if I get out of what's fitting in the premise, I'll fix it.
