Oh dear Murrin .. that doesnt sound fab .. hope you managed to get some heating.

I'd send some of our heat your way - we have plenty and then some ;)

Its been such a lovely time with family in Adelaide .. so good to catch up with friends and family, neices and nephews and their children (the ones that have children) oh and theyre all so adorable. I love the time I've spent here .. been so good catching up with everyone. Well almost everyone ;)

Im staying at my baby sisters place, and my brother arrives tomorrow .. more laughs, more food, more drink before I leave on Saturday.

I'm sorry Deer to hear about your experience .. it is hard when people move on. Some times it can be down right disheartening.

😘 hope you're doing better now. We all have moments like that - you're not alone if that is any comfort at all. I am sure she knows your heart ❤️

Did you get an error or something?

Just a generic 'check your connection' error from Firefox, no site-specific errors.

Could have just been timing out, which matches what Menolly experienced.

All good now?

Well, Friday again. I'd be happier, but Monday comes round so fast. Still, lots to do, and we're having a braai at work today, so day should go quickly. (And I think our pool and table-tennis tables arrive next week, so that will be cool. :D )

Seems okay now.

Had to Google 'braai'. New word, yay.

Wake .. Work .. Weekend .. repeat 😂

Id prefer to see a four day week followed by a three day weekend ... or visa versa .. ;)

Methink it would even benefit the economy, provide more employment opportunities.. and make everyone happier and healthier.

Hi all. Been busy reading as explained in another thread. Come up for air now. We had a lot of snow but it's all gone now. Couldn't get out 3 days last week as there were no busses or any reliance on getting home if I did manage to get a bus into town. Then the heating packed up in -2 temperatures, but only for a day and a half. My gas man, Kris (he who told me to read the Malazan books) was our saviour once again, arriving at 7.00 on Friday night and leaving at 8 to see two more people with the same problem as us. Frozen drainage pipes causing the condensation to build up and stop the boiler working. Luckily ours shares the shower drain so putting dishwasher salt then boiling water down the shower drain unfroze the pipe then we had to wait for the boiler to dry out properly. Heating came back on late Saturday afternoon. Consequently I spent most of my time in the front room with the gas fire on, not upstairs on the computer!

I am pleased that you did.

Wow, Io, sounds like an adventure... I've had the heat/power out only once as an adult, and it was only maybe 4 hours on a very cold day, but I remember that day as CRAZY!
(lots more electricity outages as a child growing up in a rural place!)

Good to see you around!

Let's see... today was unusually peaceful and pleasant.
Had an online Bible study this morning, then lunch and school with the kids, and I've been cleaning the house.
Nothing spectacular, just stuff.

When I was loading the laundry, I was thinking wow, not long ago, the simple existence of housework that I had to do often offended me. Outraged me, maybe, sometimes. I was angry ALL the time. (or maybe anxious, or both.) And that's not so bad now.

Only once? Seriously? Sheesh, I've had power or water outages that last for days (rarely) and certainly many hours relatively often. The joys of living in a developing country I guess.

I live in a developed country and we get recurrent and frequent outages .. but I live in rural Australia. 😏 but nothing but a fault line shift or earthquake can impact our water supply as we get all our water from a spring.

Hi Linna  The last time the boiler stopped, a couple of years ago now, we had to call out the people with whom we had the warranty insurance and they didn't come for 5 days! It always seems to break down on a Friday night and no-one comes out at the weekend. We bought two fan heaters which came in very useful last week. :D

Being "retired" I don't get days off as four days of the week I'm at home and the other three I go to the Archives. When there is an interruption such as Christmas, Easter, snow, it's difficult to remember what day it is!

Hi Nanothnir. First time we've met, I think. Welcome to the Watch.

Don't give up. I know it doesn't anyway equate, but I took my grade 8 piano exam 3 times. First time aged 16, got a low pass. Second time when 7 months pregnant with my daughter - got 2 marks more than the first time. Third time one year later (1978) got my distinction. Keep at it and it will work out. Wish I had been brainy enough to do what you're doing. I hear that medical school is tough.

Good luck Nanothnir

On a unrelated note - just having one of those grateful moments now. I was out to lunch with a group of coworkers. We were presented salad and I took a portion. Well......out of the corner of my eye I noticed what at the time I thought was a weird shaped object. Since it looked so unusual I nudged it with my finger. Come to find out it was a small metal hinge like that could have been on a metal tray or some object like that. Anyways we called over one of the employees and complained about the whole situation. Eventually the whole meal was given to us for free.

But I am just grateful that I was not so preoccupied with conversation/etc that I had noticed it. Who knows I could be in hospital, or it could have been lodged in my throat or caused ripping and tearing in mouth or worse case ingested (although that is doubtful because of the size - more likely would have just tore up tongue and teeth and upper mouth). Anyways grateful for small things in life right about now.
