I treasure my few correspondences I had with him after briefly meeting him at an Omnicon in the early '80's.

I really like Tennant's manic portrayal of the Doctor. For me, it's in the arena of the Bakers, both of which I liked. I don't think there has been a Doctor that hasn't appealed to me, but, Tennant is amongst my favorites.

Yes, some of the stories are a bit too short, but, there were actually many stories that were 2 or 3 episodes, and most of Tom Baker through Sylvester McCoy were no more than 4 episodes, so the 2 parters now are the same length as the 4 parters were then. I realize enjoyed the relationship between Rose and the Doctor, and how they showed they were in love, and I even think it was great Sarah Jane came back, and felt like a jilted lover. Martha falling in love with the Doctor is pushing it a little too far, and I hope that's the end of this line of writing, but, other than that, I've enjoyed the entire 3 seasons (Still have 2 more eps of the 3rd season). I would like to see more "off Earth" episodes, but, I'm OK with the format.

Well, to be clear, JNT never really took the reins until the last season of Baker. For me, the Hinchliffe era was the peak (early Baker) - although, Pertwee's first season was simply outstanding (watch Inferno).

But, my understanding is JN-T was involved with the show in other capacities for quite a while before becoming executive producer.

It's funny you say that Tennant's portrayal fits in with the Bakers, because I honestly did not care for either Tom or Colin Baker as the Doctor. However, I suspect I've mellowed towards those two over time, and could probably watch their episodes now without much protest. I'm not familiar with any of the actors prior to Tom Baker. It was during his reign that the show first caught my attention, but it was Peter Davison who made the Doctor a character I could really like. When Colin Baker came along, I resented him intensely - perhaps resembling Lore's dislike of Tennant. Regardless, I stayed with C. Baker through his run, mainly because I was just in a Doctor Who "groove" at the time, being very fascinated by that universe. However, I stopped watching when Sylvester McCoy took over the role. I just had had enough.

Doctor Who was off my radar for a time, but this new incarnation has shown me what the series is capable of delivering when given a decent budget.

Did you watch McCoy's last season? Besides Battlefield, that season was pure gold. Curse of Fenric is one of the best Who stories ever.

Okay everyone, some interesting news. It looks like Tennant is being replaced. They might have a new actor for the role. And this actor is a damn good one.

It's James Nesbitt. Apparently, Russel T Davies is to be replaced by Stephen Moffatt, which would be great. However, Moffatt is quoted as saying this story is a complete fabrication.

I am afraid that is what everyone is saying. If it really is Tate, then the show is about to reach a new low.

I think Catherine Tate could be an OK temporary replacement for Martha, as long as she quits the screeching that she displayed in Runaway Bride. (Rumor I've heard is Martha will leave for a little while, Catherine Tate will take over, and then martha will return)

Nah, I didn't stick around. But I trust your word that the last season was great.

Catherine Tate is an unknown quantity to me. (shrugs)

Just to satisfy another member's abiding urge to have me state my view here:

I am a big Tennant fan. I like Eccleston, a lot, but he's not nearly as classy a doctor as Tennant.

Simm was also the best Master to date (though Jacobi's brief 5 mins as the Master is a strong rival). Frankly, I always found previous incarnations of the Master a bit dull and trite - too much like the swashbuckler style villain shaking their fist in the air and sneering evilly. Simm was like an evil version of Tennant, and breathed new life into an old character.

Also, as Lore would surely know, I am also a proponent of the Hinchcliffe-era-was-the-best-damned-era-of-Doctor-Who ever. Though the last season (despite one rather conceited story) was bloody brilliant.

Oh, yeah . . . and Martha Jones beats Rose any day of the week. Waaay classier, and much nicer to look at. No contest.

I enjoy Tennant's energetic portrayal, but I'm not sure I'd call his Doctor "classy." For me, it's actually Eccleston who is the "classier" one. I'd also name Peter Davison as a classy Doctor. I guess we each have our own notion of what classy means.
