I also agree with quite a few that I did read on this thread. Croyels are creepy for sure. The rape of Lena, the destruction of the wraiths, the murder of the Giants are all disturbing and unsettling.

When Linden returned to The Land in WGW and was in more control of her health sense, the way she felt the pain of the land and the image of the trees and grass just writhing across the Land it just.....makes me sick.

The killing of the Unhomed didn't unsettle me so much as just made me sad and furious. No good Ravers...

That Elena/Covenant event really bothered me back when I originally read the book. Even more so than even the rape (which was unsettling enough as it was!) Years later when I became a father with a daughter (and 2 step-daughters) it made it 100x worse.

I had the opposite response to Linden straightening Pitchwife's spine. That was actually one of my favorite parts. I thought that it was a wonderful gesture on Linden's part. He was a Giant with such a "tall" spirit that to regain his full Giantish height was great.

That was indeed very well described by SRD. I actually felt queezy when I read it.

As I may have said before, I"m currently re-reading th whole thing, and I gotta say that one of the things which is something really terrible which gets to me is what happenned to LLaura andd Pietten from Soaring Woodhelvin. It was just evil, what was done to them. And even more so because there was no point to it!

The entire opening to Power That Preserves is just really unsettling to me. Covenant's state of mind (or lack thereof), the way the townspeople treat him, how the leaders of the revival treat him, the razor blade in the bun, etc. He was just setting Covenant up to be pissed off and miserable right when he entered the Land.

There are a lot of disturbing parts in these books.

- The death of the Giants of Seareach by the Giant-Raver

- Lena's demise.

- Saltheart Foamfollower between the death of the Giants of Seareach and his final Caamora.

- The Bloodguard after the end of their Vow.

Those really pained me when reading the 1st Chronicles. At least the wrongness of what happened to Saltheart Foamfollower and the Bloodguard are redeemed after, they're still very unsettling to me.

I'm almost done with WGW (again) and it's bothering me that Linden and Covenant don't trust each other enough-- even after their reconciliation in Revelstone-- to try joining power with percipience so they can wield the white gold together. I'm still trying to get why not. On TC's side, he feels it violates his identity, integrity, responsibility. So?? Hasn't he asked and recieved that from everyone else at this point? On Linden's side, she is too afraid of her lust for power and possession. C'mon, get over yourselves, both of you!!!

There are so many things in the chronicles.

Something that wasn't really mentioned here is the horserite Elena gets from the Ranihim. Awfully like gang-rape in my opinion, both mental and physical.

Wow you all are very good, and very well versed in the Chronicles. I've read them probably twenty times over the years myself and, for as much as I have thought about the details of this saga, I must say I'm impressed by the depth of analysis that goes on here.

The "most" unsettling part of the Chronicles is a difficult question to answer; there is viscerally unsettling (the slaughter of the giants), or the morally / ethically unsettling (Covenant's response to the deaths of Mhoram's parents) or just the part of the series that caused me to put it down and count to ten before I could go on. It was a small but, in my opinion, telling phrase in the thousands of pages of this epic.

There are many unsettling parts...

The rape of Lena, sure -- think on how far reaching that act was; it ruined the lives of Lena, Elena, Trell, Atarian, Triock, and affected Covenant; sealed Hile's mistrust and hate of Covenant.

and the slaughter of the Giants at coercri

the burning and slaughter of Soaring Woodhelvin, and the corruption of pietten.

The fate of Korik, Sill and Doar -- their fate was sealed the moment they set out from Revelstone, no matter what happened. Foul had basically handed the Giants and the bloodguard not only a no win situation, but no matter what happened, he had sealed his purpose, and their doom. This also has far reaching consequences -- the breaking of the vow, as well as:

How the main plot setup for PTP is exactly the same as Return of the King, revolving around the primary battle while our heroes enter into the evil part of the Land...
