I said he would be
one of the first, dAN. Of course we will inform you of the status of UV's story before we inform him.

Where can I send stories?

Ask away (it can't do any harm) but I suspect SRD will respectfully decline on the basis of being insanely busy already.

Yeeeees... Since there seem to be few submissions as it is, a second volume might be a stretch. Having said that, if it turns out that there is sufficient productivity for that, I'm all in favour.
Queeaqueg wrote:I have a story I can send in but it is really short...
I say submit it anyway. What harm can it do? If it's too short, it's too short. Mine probably is too.

My long stories I will not enter, they are just over the word limit.
These short stories are only on one page.

Patience. I know of at least 3 stories in the works as we speak including my own. I just submitted a rather lengthy vampire story for Lord Absinth.
I suspect that the selection committee will have its hands full with submissions as the deadline nears and once the book is published and circulated around there will probably be even more interest in a second volume.
I think it would be very cool if, once the Anthology is published, we create a discussion forum in the Authors section.

Two words: Chapter Reads.

I'd like to request that short stories contain story title as a header or footer on every page and also page numbered. That makes it a little easier to organize, especially when 3 unstapled entries are accidentally knocked off the counter.
Thanks!

I have essentially completed my story. I plan a two day re write for submission on wednesday.
I will be sure to include a title header.

I had actually thought about putting "volume 1" in quite a long time ago... and I think it would be a good idea. It's not like it binds us or anything, it will just be convenient in the possible eventuality of a second anthology. I don't see what harm it could do.

Well, as long as you put 'Volume Two' on the next one, it shouldn't really matter if this one says 'volume one' or not, is it? It's not like someone'll get confused.

After the committee has looked at all the submissions, let's see what they have to say about a second volume.
In the meantime, which aspiring authors would want to write a second story? Show of hands.

Ooh, ooh, ooh. I would. Pick me! *holds up hand and waves vigorously* Ooh, ooh, ooh. I would. Me! Heck, I'm already starting on the next story.

Well, let's worry about putting together a quality debut before we think about a "Volume Two." I hope there will be many more story submissions as the deadline nears, because right now "Volume One" is looking thin, pale, undernourished and not very voluminous.
Now please don't take that the wrong way. I'm just tellin' it like it is. The Anthology depends on
your contributions. It belongs to
you, the members of Prairie Public Tele--er, Kevin's Watch.

Feel free to use
The Goal of Man, if you want to-in the Hall of Gifts. (or do you want me to PM it to you?) It seems to be my best received poem on the Watch. I really want to write a short story, but since I just became a teacher and 7th grade basketball coach (and, probably, an adoptive father within the next week) I'm a
little busy right now.

A reminder to everyone to please send your entries to
KWAnthology@gmail.com
Thanks kindly!
And just to refresh everyone on the submission guidelines (as posted earlier by Hier):
1. Try to keep your entry under 10,000 words, but don't worry if you're a bit over.
2. Try to keep to a SF/fantasy genre. Other types of story will be considered, however.
3. You can send as many submissions as you wish, but the selection committee will be unlikely to select more than one of them for the final anthology.
4. All submissions should be sent by January 31st, 2005. The deadline may be extended if requested.
I need to say again they are guidelines, not rules written in stone. I'm sure we can be flexible within reason.

I was discussing this with Cov Jr last night - we were talking about how KW should extend the anthology idea to another forum. Why? because we need more submissions. Let's face it, we aren't getting enough, and if we don't have enough, we have no anthology.

Not sure what you mean by extending it to another forum? Inviting members of other forums to submit?
Anyway, I assure you that I'll submit some things by the deadline, but they're not going to be stories. A few poems, a couple of short prose pieces maybe, it'll be up to the committee to sort out if they feel anything is appropriate.
Maybe I'll try and expand one of the prose bits, but I'm hell of a busy, not to mention hell of a lazy. Still, at least I'll be able to say I submitted
something

What I mean is that we place a thread in another forum to submit. Face it, not enough are submitting.

Sure, why not an announcement all over the place? Although, I'm not sure how much of a positive effect it'll have on submissions. Certainly the Hall of Gifts needs one, and why not the Library as well?
Extending the deadline may help a bit too, but again, can't be sure. Still, if we don't try, we'll never know.
When you say that there are too few submissions, how few are we actually talking about? Still, I'm guessing well under 100.

No when I say other forums, I mean OTHER forums. Not just KW - for example, other author forums. We shouldn't sell the anthology as a KW anthology because no body will care. It should be sold as an anthology of short stories from communities on the net. More people, hence greater likelihood of collecting an impressive set of stories.
