Gee, I try signing in for the first time in ages, and I get caught in a server meltdown... :) In any case, at least it seems to be running for the moment.

I did a bit of a database cleanup but I don't think it will resolve the issues.

And yes Av - ver 3 is probably a good option - and i'd do it happily if i could migrate the database properly - it currently freaks out becuase I think there's some legacy data in it that's corrupt.

Well i've removed all the google stuff just in case it was causing issues - have there been any improvements or are we still error prone?

Yeah, me too. Nothing we can do as far as I know...unfortunately the more we post, the more prevelant it becomes as the database grows.

I am getting fed up with trying to post in the First and Second Chronicles Gallery and getting error messages. Also any new posts I do don't some up on the index page. Finally, i deleted a post in First & Second Gallery and it has deleted the entire topic too!!

I've had those problems for a long time. I don't think I'll ever NOT have them. So here's what I do...

1) Frequently Copy everything that you're trying to post. At the very least, before you ever hit Preview or Submit. If it goes to Error, it won't be lost. (And hitting the Back button usually doesn't help in this case.) You can just start the post again, Pasting the whole thing.

2) Even when it goes to Error, and it looks like you lost it, and you go to the Index, and even into the forum, and your name is not listed as the most recent poster, go to the end of the thread. I've almost always actually been there, invisible until you are right at the post.

Don't worry, you didn't delete the whole thread. The database just gets confused.

And as Fist says, the post usually is actually there, the index just doesn't update. What I do is post it again, so that the index updates, then go back and delete the first of the double posts.

Unfortunately, you all can't do that, since you can only delete posts which have no replies. But, I feel sure the mods will be tolerant of duplicate posts while the problem persists.

I don't suppose there's any way to archive/compress/zip older posts, is there? That would give us some breathing room for awhile...

I've been getting this a lot the last couple of days:
Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is this a maintenance thing?

I also have received that error message multiple times in the past few days.

EDIT: Including twice while making this post.

These damn shared server environments. I would consider looking for a different provider but to be honest, it's a mission and we don't have the smallest database on the planet either so it becomes more difficult to do as time goes on.
