As for Jill Sobule, here and here are some links to info. The first is her own site and the second is the wiki. Mainly, she is known for the first song called "I Kissed A Girl," which isn't the same song at all as the recent Katy Perry song.

She's got kind of Cyndi Lauper vibe, with not as strong of voice, but heaps better lyrics. I love her. She's especially good to her fans.

I saw her live only once, and that was a year or two ago. It was a fantastic show, though very unprofessional feeling, which was nice because it felt more off the cuff, relaxed and fun. And she pretty much welcomed anyone who came up to her after the show, and didn't run off and hide after the show.

Here's a bonus Jill Sobule song:

Nothing To Prove - Jill Sobule

I remember laying down, it was 1983
Under the tree while listening to London Calling or something like that
Twenty-three years later, I'm here at a meeting
Trying to impress someone at a dying record company
But I got nothing to prove

And in walks in this sullen girl who looks like she's nineteen, or wants to be
Her hair dyed black and her biker boots
Well, I did that look so many years ago
She looks at me like I'm some square or I'm her mother
Well, fuck you, kid; I've got nothing to prove

Nothing to prove
Nothing to prove
Once I was as miserable as you
Nothing to prove
Nothing to prove
I got nothing to prove

Here I am in Los Angeles
I came here two years ago
And everyone's young and beautiful, and their skin's so smooth
And everyone's in the industry, and I hate when they use that word
And when they say they're in the industry, I say, "Oh, are you in steel?"
Well, I got nothing to prove

Nothing to prove
Nothing to prove
Once I was as miserable as you
Nothing to prove
Nothing to prove
I got nothing to prove

Later that week I saw that same girl shopping at the Trader Joe's
She was with a big bomb blonde, and I wondered if it was her girlfriend
And to my surprise, she ran up to me and smiled and said, "I loved our meeting"
Well, I was wrong about her
But usually I'm right
Well, I've got nothing to prove

Nothing to prove
Nothing to prove
Once I was as miserable as you
Nothing to prove
Nothing to prove
I got nothing to prove

Time for some Buble me thinks....

Here we are
On earth together
It's you and I
God has made us fall in love
It's true
I've really found
Someone like you
Will it stay
The love you feel for me
Will you say
That you will be by my side
To see me through
Until my life is through
Well in my mind
We can conquer the world
In love you and I
You and I, you and I...
I'm glad
At least in my life
I've found someone
That may not be here forever
To see me through
But I found strength in you
Cause in my mind
You will stay here always
In love you and I
You and I, you and I
You and I, you and I
You and I
In my mind
We can conquer the world
In love you and I
You and I, you and I
You and I...

trey anastasio - flock of words

A change in your voice was all that I heard
A quavering breath a pause in a word
A shadow that suddenly covered my eyes
A ripple of water quite smooth otherwise

You try to go back and pave over the hole
Where an intake of breath had punctured my soul
Let me know let me know I need to know

A moment of silence it now seems absurd
That I learned so much from a pause in a word
Every bird on the wing leads the others along
Inside your flock of words something went wrong

I don't think that I was expecting a lie
I just saw them pass me and one couldn't fly
Let me go let me go I need to go
Lenin, Marx
Marx, Lennon
Good Dog...

They are running me south
And I know it's coming
I've a parallel life
Up close to the sun
They are running me south
And the tide might be rising
But I've history there
And it can't be undone

Hold back your river
Please hold back your sea

Leviathan please
Can you hear me coming?
Let's settle this now
I'll abide by your laws
Leviathan please
Can you hear the air rushing?
Right out of my lungs
I'm a slave to your charms

Too many paths
I can see myself walking
Give me a reason
Not to tread in between
There are too many paths
Can't you see that I'm drowning?

Hold back your river
Please hold back your sea

Leviathan please
Can you hear me coming?
Let's settle this now
I'll abide by your laws
Leviathan please
Can you hear the air rushing?
Right out of my lungs
I'm a slave to your charm

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Sooner Than Later
Pete Droge

Left that bottle of wine on the tv table
Found that full jar of gin on the bathroom floor
Hitch your steering wheel in the misty driveway
Drove me away with damage yet unheard

I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later

Touch that to your tongue you could be out for hours
Mind your own business as usual about some party at six
There's no return, no refund, and no exchanges
You settle for best for sure you never settle for less

I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later

Stubby fights your way to the hotel lobby
Fake this joint they here might need a bar
Fancy way to wave through like a lone prize fighter
Faking the room but never ever getting a fight

I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later
I was hoping you'd come back sooner than later

Are you certain
You got your facts straight
It's been a long time
And the language may have changed
Are you certain
You trust your memory
From a time when we
Still believed in right and wrong

Have you recorded all the casualties
All the strategies
Of this thirty-year war

I remember
How the prisoners
Used to comfort me
Even as I locked the cells
I got to know them
Their eccentricities
Their family histories
And who it was they used to be

Back before all the casualties
All the strategies
Of this thirty-year war

All they don't know
Is that so long ago
I was a prisoner in this very cell
What they don't see
Is the part of me
That still wears the scars of criminality

They don't identify me anymore

I will not be another casualty
Of my very own
Thirty-year war

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Lines on my Face
Peter Frampton

Lines on my head from that one thing she said
She spoke of strangers that don't sleep two a bed
Kept on trying, buying time, not waiting on fate
I somehow got the feeling that I opened my eyes too late

I saw where you came from
Called out your name
But there's no answer
We lived on your doorstep
Made you my wife
I don't need that

Lines on my face, while I laugh lest I cry
Speed city dirt and gritty waving me goodbye
Now there's so many people, my family of friends
Trying so hard to make me smile untill this heartache mends

I saw where you came from
called out your name
but there's no answer
We lived on your doorstep
Made you my wife
I don't need that

Ice in her eyes, frozen tears would never be a surprise
Well, you can't erase a dream, you can only wake me up
Well, my mind is turning slower, never to accept defeat
It don't matter
It don't matter
I still got a house to heat

I saw where you came from
called out your name
but there's no answer
We lived on your doorstep
Made you my wife
I don't need that

Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

Go Your Own Way

Loving you
Isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel
If I could
Maybe I'd give you my world
How can I
When you won't take it from me
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up is all you wanna do
If I could
Baby I'd give you my world
Open up
Everything's waiting for you
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
go your own way
For you, there'll be no more crying,
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right
To you, I'll give the world
to you, I'll never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right.
And the songbirds are singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before.
And I wish you all the love in the world,
But most of all, I wish it from myself.
And the songbirds keep singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before, like never before.

I remember when this song came out, a lot of people were a little shocked to find out that Stevie was the one that didn't want to get married. Didn't fit the normal pattern for that time frame.

I've always had misgivings about the Rumours album because of the band politics, like as if there was a shadow at the heart of each song that rendered the sentiment kinda false.

Reading in a magazine article recently about the work and creative input from Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut gave me fresh insight into why Rumours is and always will remain a classic album. Those guys, together with FM, pushed the audio quality beyond the technology available to them at the time - which isn't really as absurd as that sounds!

The guitar solo on 'Go Your Own Way' is actually Ken Caillat using six different Lindsey Buckingham solos, joining the best bits and merging them together by playing the desk like a musical instrument using the channel faders. Amazing.

So yeah, Rumours...whatever...are all still 12 great songs

- with great lyrics too, of course

I saw Mac on the end of the Rumours tour in 78. Last city. Stevie's voice was shot and she was just about to go get the nodes removed from her vocal cords. She still sang her ass off! And it is when I discovered that some really good guitarists sacrifice their play on the album for the sake of the sound. But when you see them in concert..wow.

Lindsey is one of the most awesome guitarists that I've ever seen live. Can't remember which song, but they started jamming in the middle of it and Lindsey was playing his guitar wildly with wicked quick finger strokes and jumping both legs off the ground moving in a circular pattern like a toy train would. His legs were moving so fast it looked like he was hovering all the while never missing a beat in his playing.

That's a great story to have, Endymion9. For myself, I've never been to a mega gig, the biggest venue has been a cinema. As a matter of fact the shows I've seen over the past decade have gotten smaller and smaller. The last one was when I saw Gorden Giltrap in the backroom of a pub with an audience of about 30 people. But still a joy to see a master guitarist at work. I'm not sure if he made an impression in the states.

Peter Green played in Nottingham a few months back and I intended to go, but somehow it slipped my mind. Sooooooo disappointed to have missed seeing him.

I haven't been to an actual concert since 94. Saw Stephen Stills in the Tennesee Theatre. Attendance about 300. Great show. Very personal.

I've been waiting for months, waiting for years, waiting for you to change.
Aw, but there ain't much that's dumber, there ain't much that's dumber than pinning your hopes on change in another.
And I, yeah I still need you, but what good's that gonna do?
Needing is one thing, and getting - getting's another.

So I been sitting around, wasting my time, wondering what you been doing.
Aw, and it ain't real forgiving, it ain't real forgiving, sitting here picturing someone else living.
And I, yeah I still need you, but what good's that gonna do?
Needing is one thing, and getting - getting's another.

I've been hoping for months, hoping for years, hoping I might forget.
Aw, but it don't get much dumber, it don't get much dumber than trying to forget a girl when you love her.
And I, yeah I still need you, but what good's that gonna do?
Needing is one thing, and getting - getting's another.

When? When? Why not now? Why not me? Why not me?

Inspired by a thread in the 'tank, would you believe?

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable,
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy begger
Who could think you under the table,
David Hume could out-consume,
Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel.
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates himself was permanently pissed.

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say could stick it away,
Half a crate of whiskey everyday.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And René DesCartes was a drunken fart
"I drink, therefore I am."

Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed,
A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed.
Hugs and sh!t ~ lucimay

Sorry...but I gotta do a little bit of Ga-Ga (I probably like the tune more that the lyrics but heh....)

You've gotta a lotta lotta nerve
Coming here when I'm still with him
And I can't have you, it isn't fair
Born March of '86, my birthday's coming
And if I had one wish
Yeah, you'd be it

When you're 'round
I lose myself inside your mouth
You've got brown eyes
Like no one else
Baby make it to me

Again and again
Again, again, again, again
Never stop again and again
Again, again, a-a-again, again
Never stop, oh
He never really saw me
Or waited when we were hooking up
Yeah he'd a never last
Last week when I was sad
You said that you knew
My eyes change from kinda green
To kind blue, heya

When you're 'round
I lose myself inside your mouth
You've got brown eyes
Like no one else
Baby make it to me

Again and again
Again, again, again, again
Never stop again and again
Again, again, a-a-again, again
Never stop

They tell me if I leave him
Baby would you be there
'Cause maybe you could
Be m-m-mine all the t-t-time

Jerry Rafferty - Baker Street

Winding your way down on Baker Street
Light in your head and dead on your feet
Well another crazy day, you’ll drink the night away
And forget about everything.

This city desert makes you feel so cold
It’s got so many people but it’s got no soul
And it’s taken you so long to find out you were wrong
When you thought it held everything.

You used to think that it was so easy,
You used to say that it was so easy
But you’re tryin’, you’re tryin’ now.
Another year and then you’d be happy
Just one more year and then you’d be happy
But you’re cryin’, you’re cryin’ now.

Way down the street there’s a light in his place
He opens the door, he’s got that look on his face
And he asks you where you’ve been, you tell him who you’ve seen
And you talk about anything.

He’s got this dream about buyin’ some land
He’s gonna give up the booze and the one night stands
And then he’ll settle down, in some quiet little town
And forget about everything.

But you know he’ll always keep movin’
You know he’s never gonna stop movin’
Cause he’s rollin’, he’s the rollin’ stone.
And when you wake up it’s a new morning
The sun is shining, it’s a new morning
But you’re going, you’re going home.
