Agreed, Cj.
Michael Jackson's Thriller
IMO, to this day nothing still comes close...
Followed by:
Remember the Time and
Black or White
His videos were cutting edge.

There was never anyone before, nor, do I think, anyone will come after that influenced music the way Michael Jackson did. An amazing talent, a genius. I remember watching the Motown 25th anni special and saw him do the moonwalk for the first time...
Listening to a playlist on You Tube right now, running thru all the best vids...Bad

And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~
...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

mmm...I won't say never, whether before or after.
But for the current era of music, I can't help but agree.
Oh, me too!Furls Fire wrote:An amazing talent, a genius. I remember watching the Motown 25th anni special and saw him do the moonwalk for the first time...
Pretty sure it was done to Billie Jean...
...and to hear the day after that MJ received a phone call from Fred Astaire, saying how impressed he was by it when he saw it on the same show...
...masterful.

I won't say no-one else has influenced music to the extent that he has, but very few people in the last thirty years have influenced pop to the extent he has, and very few ever have influenced music in the way he has.
MJ wasn't just music, he wasn't just dance - he was culture. I grew up in the 80s; in schools, among kids, he was everywhere. And while that's true of other (sometimes short-lived) pop phenomena, add his legacy to it: his sound was one of the defining sounds of the 80s, his videos told stories stylishly and dramatically, and he practically invented a form of dance. No-one else moves like that.
He was a badly confused and troubled man, I think; more so as he got older. But he also possessed talent that verged on genius in his field.

I've never heard of Ultra Vivid Scene, but that's a good song. I've never actually seen Kim Deal before (though I'm familiar with the Pixies) - she has a pretty smile.Stonemaybe wrote:![]()
One of my fave tracks of all time! I fell in love with Kim on this video, which led to all sorts of complications in my private life.
