Found the nearest B&N on Google Maps, went out during lunch hour, drove the 3 miles/30 minutes/3,271 traffic lights, no store there, called the number for directions, no answer, drove back to work, lunch hour over.

This isn't your day, WF. I think you should take the afternoon off.

Yes, I got uber hosed by Amazon with Deathly Hallows. That is why I now have two hardcover copies. The one I went out and purchased on the release day because they didn't deliver my preordered copy. Then they would not credit me back my money but rather insisted upon mailing me a replacement copy. :?

I am planning on buying a second copy of FR as a gift for someone else but it would have been nice to be able to mail it out sooner. :?

Wayfriend..... I have no words that could possibly comfort you in this time of pain and agony. Just remember that we all love you. 8O

Seconded.

Uh, I hesitate to mention this, but...mine's here. (I'd gotten an Amazon Prime trial membership and forgot to cancel it, so they defaulted to two-day delivery for FR.)

It's shiny. And I even know all the people listed in the Acknowledgements. ;)

And that's as far as I've gotten because they're making me WORK today. Of all days! :x

Oh! I know what else I was going to say! The fact that Amazon was surprised by the number of copies they're selling is a *good* thing for SRD, right?

I got mine at about 3. Read WHGB but will wait to begin when I have a few hours to devote, probably later tonight. Good Luck all.

I got an email a couple of days ago from Amazon saying they had shipped mine. :) As of this morning it was at a post office within thirty miles of my house. I am expecting it to either be at home when I get off work at midnight, or come to my house tomorrow. :)

I have never had a problem with Amazon. The Harry Potter books have always come on release day, for example. :)

I have ordered new releases for overnight mail to make sure I get them on release day - and then I get emails saying they are only going to charge me the regular shipping rate - and they get the book to me on release day anyway.

What can I say? they treat me really really well, which is why they get hundreds/thousands of dollars of business from me and my family on an annual basis year after year after year.

Now you see- for Runes I made the mistake of deciding to get it from the local stores. The huge Barnes & Noble in Ann Arbor had sold all of their copies through store pre-orders and had none left for people walking in the door. :-x Ditto for both big Borders stores. :-x I had to wait nearly a week for one of the Borders stores to get it in stock.

I learned my lesson. I ordered from Amazon this time - and as usual, they are not letting me down. 8)

Incidentally, the first review is up at Amazon. It is very positive - and it gently chides THOOLAH.

I think that made my day.

Well: Amazon running out is a positive...it must be selling well!

The review (I assume we're talking about the review that gives it 5 stars??) is a review by Burgs (I'm 99% sure I've got that right).

I'm a little worried about my copy. Even though I got a shipping email from Amazon, now when I go to my amazon account it is like the order doesn't exist. There is no record of it in open orders. It's like it disappeared. 8O I can't get any tracking of it either. :-x
