Just noticed I hadn't updated my info.
Since I decided to fly out of Tampa instead of Orlando, my arrival time Friday is now 12:15 pm instead of 12:50 pm.

A cheaper alternative is that you might be able to get a temporary cell phone, but I don't really know enough about it to say it is cheaper or not. Just a thought.
For more on the where to stay cheaply front, I've been noticing some scary little dive motels for the truly budget conscious who are not so interested in the glamorous life and want to be a few blocks from where I live.
No probs at all Cag. I understand about not being able to accomidate on the Thurs.
I had heard about temp cell phones in the US but know nothing about it. Anyone able to give me a suggestion of a cell company that does it as I'd love to do that--would prefer a cheaper alternative to my mobile phone provider!
And, yep...suggest a dive for me and Louise!

No no, Cag, it's okay. I *want* to camp. (Given the choice between sleeping in a potential fleabag motel and sleeping in my own sleeping bag, I'll take my sleeping bag every time. I know where the sleeping bag has been.

)
Menolly, sure, pm me your flight info and cell number (if you've got a cell, that is -- I can't remember...). Also, do you have a pad for under Beorn's bag? If not, I've got a Therma-Rest pad that I can bring for you. You'll like it -- it's very comfy.

I should arrive in the area at 3 or 4-probably should hit the campground first-so I'll def need to exchange cell #s with ali & Cag.

Nope, I don't have a pad. I haven't camped in years, so didn't know there was such a thing. I'll be happy to use yours, if you don't mind.
Hyperception says I'll need a new air mattress as well. Is there room in the tent for them, ali?

The Therma-Rest is a self-inflating air mattress, so you'll be all set. I don't use it anymore -- I've now got an insulated mattress that fits into a pocket on the underside of my sleeping bag. So yeah, plenty of room in the tent for 'em both.

Ooo...now that's
cool. Thanks!!
Speaking of cool...
Is the camp ground in the mountains themselves, or outside of them like Denver is?
In other words, just how cool will this Floridian find it at night at the camp site in mid-June?
I'm good in t-shirt and shorts to about 50ºF (I do have that excess insulation I carry around that keeps me warm), but if it dips into the 40's, I may need to bring a sweater or something.

It's south of Denver, not in the mountains at all. I'm going to bring a light jacket, tho, just in case the evenings get chilly. Plus we might go up into the mountains at some point.

I'm a sad, sad panda that I won't get to join in the fun in Denver.
Anyhow, does anyone have requests for stuff from the
Ozarks? We have excellent
local honey here,
local jams, and a
cheese factory as well, to name a few. Let me know so I can get the shopping done in the next week or two.

I'd recommend bringing a little gear for colder weather. Even though June is typically pretty hot around here, it isn't unheard of for a freak snowstorm in June. And evenings can get a little cool. But I'm guessing for the most part you will just need clothes for warm weather.
Oh, and my first unrequited love lived in the Ozarks. If any of you have read Araby from James Joyce (it is one of the stories in Dubliners), it was very much like that. I visited a friend for a couple weeks whose father owned a canoe rental business in the Ozarks, and his cousin who lived there joined us for a few days. I fell in love with her over those couple days, had a picture of her that I peeked at every day for that year, and then when summer finally rolled around again, I was going to return and let her know how I felt about her. I didn't really have a speech together, but I thought about it all the time. Finally, I join him again, and she was supposed to visit on the 4th of July.
She had to work, and couldn't come.
Utterly devastated, I thought about another year doing the same thing, and quickly realized, "ok, this just ain't gonna work between us." I quickly got over that crush.
So if you find her about, just let her know she was my first. Thanks.

Well, I doubt I'd be able to bring them back with me...

...I certainly can't. Australia has one of the strictest custom laws on the planet.
