A sergeant I've known for a decade or so at the prison just died of covid this week

Me, fine mostly. Lazy. End of life for the version of scripting language all our sites are on, so what fun, they all need to be updated. Within the next month and a half.

I don't have to actually do any of the updating, but I'm trying to co-ordinate the team and of course most updates result in spectacular failures of other components etc.

My wife, just this morning, had her second eye lens replaced from having cataracts. She had the other one done two weeks ago. She will now have 20/20 vision as we opted for the "custom" and paid the extra money that insurance wouldn't pay for that. Its not cheap I can tell ya.

A lady who works for me has Covid, as do her elementary aged kids and her husband. No vaccine. All are doing fine but they are in an age group and no underlying conditions, so are least likely to end up in the hospital.

I was exposed to her last week on Monday so I am outside the 10 days now... not that I worry about me, but my Father in law is 92. I have stayed away from him since then. He is vaccinated but you cant be too careful with someone that old. I also stayed away from my daughters new baby, again out of an abundance of caution more than anything.

When my prison closed the building and kept the trusty camp open we were taken over by a nearby prison. The kitchen captain from that unit quit. And someone I worked with my first ten years at my first building took over. He was a laundry captain.

Tdcj made the head of food service a major. So my new major, knowing and trusting me has allowed me to do whatever is necessary to fix the building kitchen and the two trusty camps.

This includes working six days a week, two of those being overtime. And working one of those at my trusty camp. In effect I am acting as the kitchen captain. With the goal of fixing all of the paperwork problems. And reorganizing the space in the main kitchen.

I had to rework four rooms so far. Made a soap room from a utility room. Changed the old soap room to the utility closet. Reworked the tool room to meet policy. And created a sergeant's office from a second utility room. Moving them out of the majors office.

I've had to rework all three tool boards to meet policy.

I'm having a blast. Being allowed the freedom to do what is necessary to get all of this done. Today I'm redoing the tool boards.

I'm also to train the staff on how to do their jobs.

The greenhouse is the result of a member of Chat Café Redmond asking for donated clean glass jars of all sizes. Coming from Florida, I'm a little concerned should there be an intense wind storm, but otherwise it's pretty cool.

Me, I'm treading water at the moment. Know I should be doing more, but just not feeling it at all, so kinda drifting along.

How unexpected and lovely!
While getting ready for work today, a package addressed to me was dropped off on the front porch from Torrid. It was from their #torridstrong campaign, which supports breast cancer research through sales of specific items. October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, it arrived in a timely manner.
I'm uncertain how Torrid found out that I'm a breast cancer thriver. I'm thinking I may have mentioned it in one of the reviews I wrote on their website for a previous Torrid Strong item.
It goes nicely with my choice of dress today.

The loop of pink ribbon in support of breast cancer survivors / thrivers is on the lower right tail of the scarf.

Of course, it helps to be the photographer...

Another day, another day, another day.

Of course things could always be worse, but I'm a bit annoyed that they are not better either.

Bored, lazy, demotivated, I'd be voting for hibernation if summer weren't coming on strong now.

I will admit I am loving the increased workload. Julie says she has never seen me happier at work. I am running the main building kitchen and two trusty camp kitchens. The trusty camps are on different cities, a good half hour from each other. My kitchen major gives me goals and leaves it up to me on how to get it down.

I get to set my hours and overtime. I have my own crew of inmates. I'm training the new sergeant. I'm able to raid my old building for supplies. The head of food service granted me precedent over others for that. I have two inmates at my original camp who help me raid.

I'll help organize the holidays.

I really enjoy being the guy behind the guy in charge.
