Well, as my acid reflux has been especially bad lately, I'm drinking a lot of water and barely eating anything. Banana here, apple there, bit of toast, applesauce, and smaller than usual supper, mainly because the girlfriend insists on making supper and wants to have whatever I'm having even if it is next to nothing.

I love her.

Hope it gets better Cag!

I think I'll take Elora to the Y today and sign up: swimming, basketball, cardio, weights and all for a monthly family package of 54 bucks a month-you can't beat that. Good time to do so as I've lost 10 lbs being sick for six days, need to put down the wine bottle and I'll get in shape in no time.

I used to have acid reflux really bad.

Then I quit drinking.

I haven't taken a Prevacid in over a year.

Prilosec works great.

I am hoping that losing weight will help get rid of mine.

Since I quit smoking I've quit drinking too. However, the soda intake had been a little higher prior to my recent troubles. I haven't drank soda since then, and have had very little caffeine since last Saturday. If it wasn't for the damn Girl Sprout cookies around that I've been eating about 2 a day of, I wouldn't have any. Sucks that I have to give up all my vices. Damn, I'm going to be a boring individual.

Seeing as when I weighed in at the doctor's office, I was 10 pounds heavier than my scale is telling me now, I may have lost 10 pounds. Then again, I've noticed doctors offices have scales that are a little more affected by gravity than the home scales are. But screw it....I'm taking it.

I remember now why I hate running.

*urgh*

Totally different breathing from bike-riding.

Try doing both. Go ride for 20-30 miles, then get off your bike and immediately run 5 miles or so. Not only is it different breathing, it's different leg muscles as well.

I hate running. It's not so bad on a treadmill, though that gets monotonous. Being outside is much nicer, but god! it's hell on the body. However, out of all the cardiovascular options available to me, it's absolutely the most intense workout. I got to where I could run 35-40 minutes without stopping last year. But my calves got to hurting really bad and felt like I was damaging my body. I like biking a lot more, but you have to bike fast and hard--especially downhill--if you want to get anything close to the workout you get running. My favorite is "real" mountain biking out on a trail. I really miss that.

Malik, if your calves hurt really bad after that amount of time, you will likely benefit from a different running shoe. I did have the same problem with the front of my calves aching after a run of more than 15mins. To complicate things, I also happen to have (very) flat feet.
Then I got a running shoe that controls pronation (I chose Brooks Technical), and that problem all but went away. Combined with Dr Scholl's gel arch inserts, I very rarely have leg or foot problems from running up to 60 minutes at a time.
On a treadmill, it is also a good idea to change up both the incline and running style (large, med, small strides) every 3-5 minutes. This will also help keep your calves and knees from hurting. I am told that treadmilling at the same speed, stride and incline for long times is pretty bad for the joints (plus its even more boring).

Dukkha, thanks. I've got running shoes, but it's time for some new ones. Running on the treadmill never hurts. Maybe that's because I do mix up my speed and stride, in addition to switching off on running up and down the stairs. But I think the real problem was that the only available places to run outside are on a blacktop track through a nearby arboretum (gorgeous, btw!), or the sidewalk. Running on such an unforgiving surface was jarring me too much. Maybe some more expensive shoes would help; mine were less than $100. But I just don't think it's good to run on such a hard surface.

Also, my calves are two of my weaker muscles. I do several exercises to build them up, but they just don't pack on muscle like my quads.

And I was probably overdoing it last year. I got tired of cutting so many calories, so I tried exercising a lot more. I'd run five days a week, 30-40 minutes, in addition to lifting weights. I think I tried to do too much too fast.

I am always trying to lose weight. I have lost 9 lbs since December. I have an indoor exercise bike, a gazelle and a stair stepper. I also bought me a spiffy bike, but we have had tons of rain, even sleet and snow! Go figure... Texas is just weird. It is pretty now. No matter how much I exercise I never seem to lose any weight. I really want to get back into tap dancing again.

When I can run five miles I will do this.

I'm half a pound short of having lost 20 lbs. That's since the beginning of October. I'm tickled. Especially considering that Prime Overeating Season fell right in the middle there.

Awesome, ali! 8)

I have had some trouble tracking my intake this week, due to having gone to catered events and a belated birthday lunch date. But I think I am doing ok, in spite of that mousse cake I shared with my hubby yesterday. ;)

I have been getting exercise, but my strength training program is not up to par - last time I strength trained was Sunday. I need to get in two more days a week of strength training.

Yeah, the weights got left behind when I went to Chicago and I haven't quite gotten around to picking them up again. This weekend. If nothing else, it'll give Batty and Magickmaker something to laugh hysterically at....

Well, after several bad weeks (not tracking, not gaining, just maintaining) I'm off to a very healthy day today. And I feel good about it. . . more focused than I have up until now.

Congratulations on the progress guys! :D

I need to figure out a way to keep within my calorie limit without feeling hungry so much.

So, my weight has been holding steady for the last couple of weeks, but I seem to have lost about 1/2 inch in my measurements. Guess I'll have to settle for that, for now.

And my daughter, who's home for spring break, said I look skinnier.

I don't really feel like I am making such great progress, though.
