Good point, Eastwood has the wrong tone for TC. Sean Penn looks all wrong. More like a pool hall tout than a tortured prophet. DD-L *is* tortured.

I could perhaps see Eastwood as that grim, embittered Lord... Verement, was it? Who did the Word at Doom's Retreat...

ROFL!!

YES!! Didn't Verement say, "You feel lucky, punk?"

Okay, maybe Clint Eastwood would be wrong, I don't know. But Sean Penn would be ideal in my opinion. Day-Lewis is just too 'nice'. Too attractive perhaps.
Sean Penn can look very tortured and he's a brilliant actor. You could say, he has grown on me like Covenant. And he could play a rapist as well.

Oh I agree, Sean Penn is a brilliant actor. But he would be acting. DD-L doesn't have to look tortured, he lives it. And his appearance is far more adaptable than Penn. For example, SRD makes great play with the "prophetic" lines in Covenant's face, and Penn's face doesn't have room for lines (don't know how to express it better). In Gangs Of New York it was obvious how fully DD-L can inhabit a changed face. He used to be beautiful, yes, but I think "attractive" was just one of his roles.

Oh you guys are just favoring Penn right now because he won that best actor... (giggle) Thing is that Penn could pull it off. I was also thinking why someone hasn't mention Russell Crowe?
Either way, the script has to get written and bought and then accepted sooo until then this discussion is moot.. no?
Hee hee
Anyway I added a new post to the first draft script thread which continues the script.. (yeah! Finally!). Exit Atiaran and enter Foamfollower!

You're making progress, SU.
Completely true, a moot discussion.
Russell Crowe has been mentioned. Amani shot him down with an entire squadron of guns blazing.

I agree with him, but mostly on the grounds of physical appearance. Crowe could certainly play the emotions involved, but he couldn't look gaunt and unhealthy.
And while we're reiterating, Cate Blanchett for Elena. Elena has a range of passions to defeat all but the best of actresses.

I still say Christian Bale (even though Bannor was the 1st to point this out

) see the photo of him in gallery--in 7 more years he'll look just like him, if he buffs down...

who said Eastwood? c'mon, the man is in his sixties, or more; TC was a young father at the beginning of the book
e.g. I'd very much like to see Harrison Ford as TC, he can also play that haggard look, but he is also in a grandfather age now
Jody Fostre would make a nice Linden; she has that beautiful-but-stern face
and I could picture Laurence Fishburne as Troy

I had the same thought of Laurence Fishburne as Troy. Genius' think alike, don't they!
Christian Bale as TC would be great but, as danlo said, he needs to buff down. Too healthy looking.
Sean Penn is all wrong for TC. He irritates me anyway. Maybe good for HIle Troy.
Who would play Lord Foul? That is something that I can't remember anyone mentioning.

Anthony Hopkins or Sean Connery:-)

Well, appearance isn't really a factor in that, since we don't ever see Foul as such. So the priority in casting him is finding someone who can deliver the "withering force of pure scorn" in his voice

I'll have a think about that one...
Torrent - I hope I didn't come across as shooting your idea down too viciously

I too had thought of Eastwood, but after some deliberation decided against (incidentally - "Amy" - if you look back at Torrent's suggestion, he did specify a
younger Eastwood

)
Personally, I can see Christian Bale as an acceptable TC. I can also see Johnny Depp as Troy (I think he could do TC, but he's far too much of a pretty boy!)
I still say I'd make the best Mhoram

If Foul had to be characterized William DeFoe's crazy eyes under a bunch of makeup would do it for me.

No need for excuses, this is just fun.
Maybe I should go and rent "Streets of NY" first...but have you seen "21 gram", Joy?
Okay, it was just a thought.
And I think Jodie Foster would have the right...stubbornness to play Linden.

waddaya mean, we never see Foul? we see him quite clearly in TPTP

(I was just trying to take it ez on him Amy--didn't you know that in his 3 years on the Watch he just regurgitates what we say and has never actually read the books?

)

Why can't I read danlo's last post? Where is page 22...? Hmmmm....

Hey! If that was aimed at me, you're in for a serious ass-kicking!

Just like when that Tim Convenient kicked Lord Fool's ass!

I liked Christian Bale as TC the first time it was suggested ..
but failing him .. I hold with Guy Pearce .. he already has the ragged look of a sick man
