(But then, for awhile I've been meaning to dare myself to start working on a short story, posting outlines, character descrips, sections of it, etc. in the Hall as I go... )

Having a great, refreshing time at a conference I've helped plan for several months. I was in charge of music and worship sessions. I tried a couple of different things this year (one of them was getting the teens to play one session of praise and worship music) and the feedback has been very positive. Last night I led songs around a bonfire. Awesome...

I just got two shots, one for typhoid and one for meningitis; the latter one stung like a son of a female dog and my left arm is sore... tonight is Talent Night and I am playing guitar for my daughter who is going to sing "Landslide" (the Stevie Nicks song).

Monday, back to reality. First day of a national general strike to protest the govt's removal of fuel subsidy. School is supposed to resume on Wednesday and I am praying it does, missing school because of riots and crap really sucks. But here's hoping!

Crossing fingers for you DotD. Sounds like a fun time at your revival.

I had a good day. Ran errands and ended up getting a gorgeous blue betta fish for the fishbowl since all of BGB's feeder goldfish died. I named him Chauncy and he's a gorgeous aqua blue with red head accents and rich deep blue tail. We took the Mooseman to the beach and he ran like a maniac and it was absolutely gorgeous out there with super low tide and we ended up lying in the sand after a long walk. Now I am going to attempt to make cherry vanilla ice cream. OH, and Sorus, they got the snowflake gloves back in at the dollar store so I got you and Caitlin both a pair. Of course they don't hold a candle or even a bakers dozen of candles to the ones that Aliantha made us but hey, $1.

Also my eye is looking and feeling a lot better after Moose hooked my eyelid with his toenail the other night. Less puffy, less red, has the healing itch as opposed to infected itch. All good.

I am feeling unenthused about having to work tomorrow, on Sunday. Guess I'll manage somehow.

Hang in there, MsMary. 8)

Jenn, I figured you guys could wear your dollar store fingerless gloves under the arm warmers I made, if need be. So it's all good. :)

It was, like, 70 degrees here today. In January. Weird. :? I opened the windows, then went to a Stitch & Bitch session across town. Then Magickmaker and I got pizza tonight. I was supposed to host book club here tomorrow, as the usual hostess has come down with diverticulitis (poor thing...), but now everybody else has stuff to do, too, so the meeting's been cancelled. And after I stayed up into the wee hours of Friday to take the bloody tree down.... Ah well, it just means I have an unexpected day this weekend to relax. 8)

How come it was 70 degrees there and it's now 60 degrees here? I thought it was supposed to be warmer further south! :P

I have no explanation, MsMary. I guess you'll just have to move to Virginia.

Ha. If I move north, it would more likely be to NJ. Got lots of friends in a small town in central Jersey.

About 4 hours, if you're in the DC area. We used to make the trip frequently.

That sounds about right. I think it was 5 hours or so to lorin's when she lived on the Jersey shore.

Ever since the New Year, I've been having trouble sleeping. Last night I went to bed at 12:30am, but I was awake until at least 2:30.

Thank goodness for my automatic coffee maker. As soon as I managed to drag myself awake, the coffee was waiting for me.

Setting up coffee before going to bed is just way beyond my organizational level. So I commend you on that, Rigel. But sorry about the sleeplessness, that one's tough, ruins the days as well as the nights.

A nice, boring day. Went for a long walk with my husband. Then sat around reading while spending several hours getting my computer to work again. Which it is, Hallelujah!!

Yay for computers that work! :)

I've gotten in a bad habit of staying up 'til 2am or later. I'd like to blame it on being on vacation over the holidays, but I was doing it way before that. I'd also like to blame it on Magickmaker  -- when she works the closing shift, she comes home around midnight and then wants to debrief (read: whine and moan) about her day -- but that's really just an excuse. I really do need to start getting more sleep. The alarm goes off at 7am, regardless of what time I go to bed....

I'm so overtired. Looking forward to a string of days off ahead. And dreading that I'll be called back to work before I complete the full complement of days I requested to have off. (There were rumblings that someone's kid is having an issue and I may need to fill in for her.)

And I really need some days off.

I was a tiny bit of a gift fairy today. I brought the gloves that Aliantha made for Sorus as well as the pair from the dollar store and another pair from the dollar store for Caitlin. I also brought Derek a pint of my latest ice cream experiment. I keep telling him about my experiments and he wanted to try some so he got vanilla bean with bourbon infused black cherries. I snuck in a couple of maraschino ones on a whim but it's mostly just the black ones. It's really good. Today was an ok day. Got to work with the new guy and very shortly into my shift after watching me joke around with Caitlin I guess he realized I seemed ok. Sal and Derek and Jayson were all having one of their usual ego/pissing contest battles and so Austin (new guy) asks me, "Are they always like this?" I said, "Yep. There are four guys in tech other than you and three of them have ego issues, Mike is even keel, he's pretty much Switzerland. You have a choice, remain neutral or join in the contest to see who can pee the highest on the wall." He thought that was pretty funny and said he was planning on remaining neutral. I told him that as far as the other managers go, Kin is even keel, Gilbert always happy and myself, pretty even keel but known to have my moments. He looked at me questionably and I said, "I have my moments that are most often set off by people leaving big disrespectful messes in my copy center. Avoid doing that and we will be just fine." He thought that seemed very fair. I think I am going to like this kid. Back to the ego battle for a second. Based on what I can figure from hearing all sides and reviewing the issue itself, I think they all have a point to a degree but I will have to side with Derek on this one because I feel like Sal took it too far in an effort to force Derek back in his place which, unfortunately is the absolute wrong approach. I didn't take any known stands other than stating it here. I simply said, "I see your point but since I'm not really involved in this, you guys will just have to work it out yourselves." Essentially they just wanted to use me for a sounding board anyway, no stand required which suits me just fine.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....
