agreed. It
was big and scary for it's time, but fades with time. I guess that is why they tried (and failed) to remake it recently.
One thing I
do like about the movie,
though, is that it is set up like you can figure out who the murderer is but really, by the end, you never ever do see who it is... neat.
but overrated... yah.

For me, in no particular order, not that I don't like or appreciate 'em, just that they're overrated out there:
Shawshank
American Beauty
Bladerunner
A Thin Red Line
Clerks
A Beautiful Mind
Mystic River
Pulp Fiction
The Searchers
Gladiator
Animal House

I'd also add Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile.
.... blasphemy. Charlie Kaufman is the real freaking deal. Eternal Sunshine is genius, just like Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, and Confessions of a Dangerous mind, which are all highly UNDERRATED movies. Shawshank is a movie I love, but there is a LOT of hype around it these days. (I beat it narrowly and loved the movie). I think we have discussed the Green Mile before too. (I love that movie also)
I disagree (from the original list at least) with...
Fantasia
Easy Rider
2001: A space odyssey.
American Beauty
They are all GOOD movies that may not deserve their cult. (or their Oscars) I also really like Chicago as a musical, and it's a lot of fun. I don't see it as best picture material though... (Anything with John C. Reilly has at least SOME value.)
My most overrated list would include...
Natural Born Killers
JFK
Platoon
Any Given Sunday
The Doors
there is a pattern here...
