Me? People sometimes come up with some amusing guesses, but in actuality it was randomly generated by EverQuest.

Be Welcome to the Watch, xikteny.
Be Well Come and True.

Are you a fan of a particular series of SRD's?
Or did something else draw you to the Watch?

Look around and explore.
You'll find a forum, or thread for nearly any topic.

"Alice In Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass" were among the first books I ever read. Of all the characters in Carroll's writings, The Gryphon intrigued me the most.

When I joined my first BBS back in 1990 or so, I decided to use TheGryphon as my avatar. I've used only that name on all the BBSs I've since joined.

The Mythological creature (half Lion, half Eagle) was said to guard Zeus' treasures, and is supposed to be Loyal and Courageous.

I like to believe I AM the former - and I strive for the latter....

Pinched my dog's name, and he's named after Peregrin Took who also was too curious for his own good...

My name here somehow reminds the hat or the box from "The Little Prince", perhaps the hat more, because of the insides.

I strived long to make a name to use on the internet - to be able to use only one and take at least the most interesting things I wanted from the different names I'm called.

So, it's simple - this 8 letters long combination of letters is a shortening. And that's not all - each letter has many meanings - my other names, names of interesting real or fictional people, places and concepts

For instance, partial list for letter "F": Feyd(Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen from Dune) - my nickname generally and for offline strategy games, Freddie Mercury - I hope I don't even have to write anything here :) , Frank-N-Furter - a wonderful and really unforgettable character from RHPS, Lord Foul from... well, you can make an educated guess. From SRD's books there's also Lord Mhoram :D How it all fits? Maybe I'd better not think on that 8O

Perhaps it sounds somewhat strange and even funny, but I hardly worry about such things. Alas, most likely the film "That same Munchausen" is hardly largely available in English, but at least I can give an approximate translation of a quote: "Smile, genlemen. A serious face is not yet a sign of wit. All the most horrid stupid things in the world were done with that face".

Which of the names here do you mean? I had no problems neither writing nor pronouncing any.

If you mean mine - it's quite simple - just the way the letters sound. If it sounds too weird or is too long/hard to say - it can be shortened, I've already seen and heard many variants, like Efedm, Faeld, Fae, Fel etc.

Ayup All...

'Feanor'...
because I build Scale Models and everything I build I Build it as well as I can. I can be a little Intense too, with Opinions and suchlike, and even maybe grip on too tight sometimes, But as I get older, I think I'm finally learning to loosen it off a little...

Yeah, right ! LOL...

Here's one Jenn posted of SRD and johnnyredleader in the elohimfest 3 thread...

Image

Pictures in that thread start with Jenn's post, and go on for a few pages from there. I'm not sure where the pictures you saw are posted, unless you mean the ones uploaded to the album. Most of the ones in the thread are not in the album, I think.

Ayup Menolly...

Hi there and Thankyouverymuch...

I remember this picture from last night but obviously didn't read the caption, and/or take more than superficial notice... Sorry for that and Thanks. He looks Quite Distinguished. Is he as Intense as his writing ? Or a Regular Joe ?

I can only answer for the way he presented himself at the dinner/interviews at the past two 'fests, not having ever been to a book signing, a reading, or anywhere else with SRD present. And I never sat near him during the meal, so I do not know if he is less intense when not speaking or answering questions.

I will say that for me, his persona during the interview part of 'fest matched the way he presents himself in the GI. And he was focused on getting books signed when signing my books.

Hopefully Jenn will answer that question. Her story of the first time she met SRD and informing him of FBH is wonderful, and she has gotten to know him outside of public appearances. While Sea and Romeo can probably answer as well, I think Jenn may have the most experience in person with SRD of the Watchers, although I may be mistaken there.

when i got to talk to SRD the 2nd time (met him while i was having a Sam Adams at the bar the 1st time) we had this exchange.

me: (beaming) thank you so much for everything. i don't know any author who would be this kind to his fans.

him: i don't know many fans who would be as kind to an author as of all of you.

that is so nice. he took time out of his day to greet some 30(?) odd of us odd ducks. had dinner with us. had conversation with us. accepted our tributes and plaques with such grace. made a very humble and enlightning speech. took time to answer questions and prompts for spoilers. questions i am sure he has heard before. and revealed himself to be humble and caring of us. he signed books for the how many nth time. and took time to acknowledge us, his fans.

he didn't need to do any of that. he has his money. he enjoys his privacy. we have not been hit with a cease and desist order for this wonderful site.

and let me tell you (and julie will back this) i don't have lots and lots of friends. i have a few that i keep at a pace. but i love you guys. honest i do. i met people at e-fest that i hope (and believe) will be life long friends. you know who you are. i fell in love with new mexixo. i miss the people i met and wish i could hang out with you more.

and i am writing at a pretty good clip now. the fable, the music blog thing here. all because of you guys.

and i even hugged all of the people at the river - ask julie what that means.(i hate hugs usually)

this community at the watch is incredible. you people are incredible. i am proud to be amongst you and to call you friends.

- dennis.
