Across the face of the world by Russell Kirkpatrick

www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/031600 ... 971&sr=1-1
From a tiny snowbound village, five men and women are about to embark on a journey that will change their lives -and the destiny of their world.

For two thousand years, since he was cast out from Dona Mihst, the fabled Undying Man has been plotting his revenge on the Most High. The Destroyer's plans of vengeance are nearing fruition-and he will allow nothing to stand in his way.

But one man has escaped from the Destroyer's prison, and even though the Lords of Fear ride in pursuit, he will bring word to his people. It will be up to his sons, Hal and Leith, together with a small group of villagers, to warn their world of the coming war.
So far.... very good.

I'm reading Deryni Checkmate now, and loving it.

If they do, it won't be finished until 2040.

Fantastic! She's one of my favorite authors, and I got into her series just before I read SRD as a teenager. I always wished I was born Deryni.

Yeah, I love these books. I've been reading them my whole life, but this is the first time I've done a re-read. I'm amazed by how well Deryni Checkmate held up, 25 years after the first (and only other) time I read it. I didn't remember much at all, but I really liked it. Robin Hobb pretty much owes her entire career to Katherine Kurtz. Too bad she can't even list her as one of her favorite authors on her website.

Just about to start High Deryni.

American Gods.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Full of the heavens and time.

I'm nearing the end of A Feast For Crows. This series has really surprised me - in a good way. I'm just sad that I'm going to have to wait so long for the next book. Then the next.... :(

Thanks to the Recommendation thread, I've just picked up Gardens of the Moon, so I'll be starting that in a couple of days. :)

Yeah, I liked her books a lot. If you want to read more Deryni novels, just check out the Farseer Trilogy (starting with Assasin Apprentice) and the sequal Tawny Man Trilogy.

My first punishment for losing that NFL bet with GRRM was reading Peter S. Beagle's A Fine and Private Place. This graceful tale of love and hope will not disappoint. :)

Check out the blog for the full review. . .

I'm in the middle of getting messed up by Gemmell! re-read Drenai books first, then progressed to Rigante, read first 3 then realised I didn't have the 4th (eh?), went out to look for it and found his first Troy book so read that instead (on Av' s recommendation)(meanwhile ordered 4th Rigante online), loved it so ordered 2nd and 3rd Troy book well before I'd finished 1st one but they hadn't arrived by time I'd finished it so had to pick up 4th Rigante, 3 chapters in and troy 2 & 3 show up today! grrr. To make matters worse he pulls in the drenai religion/magic to the 3rd and 4th rigante.

Still, it's been an enjoyable few weeks' reading!
