My opinion? These hostiles, including Jacob, are possibly people marooned from the Black Rock OR perhaps even original denizens from the original civilzation that existed here... I dunno. But how do they have massive resources OFF the island?
on the Screen caps of Jacob (11 frames in all), the final frame looks like a profile of Randall Flagg from the Stand

I think you guys are using this "Smokey" to explain too much. I hope the writers don't do that.....I'd like to see a different reason for the manifestations of loved ones, for sure. As for the ring of ash, couldn't that be explained by the fact there's a freaking volcano on the island? And what about that childhood friend of Ben's; did he have her killed too? If so, he's a bastard.

I think she said something about going away or leaving the island. No doubt she will pop up sooner than later. Re: smoky....I don't think the chance hi might be an extension of "jacob...or Jacob outright is that HUGE a deal. it doesn't explain TOO MUCH.

In the early episodes of this season, wasn't there mention of Ben being bummed about what happened to Annie? I'm thinking she was one of the deaths from child bearing that didn't go well.

RE: Ring of ash - I dunno...Ben seemed pretty pissed that Locke was messing with it.

Ben's a homicidal maniac. Who the fuck knows what'll set him off!

Umm...good point. But I thought Ben was "one of the good guys."
I guess he has daddy issues like so many on the show.

[quote="A Gunslinger"]Aha!
Well, no one can claim Ben is a good guy any longer.
Killing his pop and an accomplice with the mass killing of the Dharma gang.
Also of note is that it appears Richard never ages.
Locke should be ok, but I hope smokey isn't pissed at him after having that light shined on him, as Ben had warned.

I dunno...was Richard supposed to be the same age, or were they just unable to make him look younger?
Then again, I guess it makes some sort of sense, as nobody is born on the island. So what the hell are the Others then?

Well, if the Others are immortal, and Ben is not, then Ben is doing pretty good getting himself in charge. He must have something up his sleave.
Like having psychic powers that no one wants to mess with.
It explains why the plane crashed: he fulfilled his need for a doctor; it explains why he's in charge: no one can mess with him; it explains the monster; it explains the dead people; it explains the mysterious healing; it even explains how he got cancer on a cancer-free island (punishing himself for something). It explains why Juliet does what he says despite her reservations.
And didn't Walt have a little bit of the same thing? Oh yeah...

The actor playing Ben is 53, the X-ray of his back was that of a 40 year old, so, Ben is between 40-53, and the actor playing Richard is definitely younger (he's 39). So, despite issues with not being able to make an actor look younger, there is no way Richard could be older than Ben during the episode, unless there is an issue with Richard not aging normally (Or Ben aging excessively)

The one thing is ...how does Ben and the former "hostiles"...the un-Dharma denizens ...wield all the resources they do? Not only the financial, but the DATA. They have nearly god-like ability to ascertain info on anyone. What gives?
I am sold in Jacob/smoky being one and the same or an extesion of the other.

Okay, I'm convinced.
On an attempt to hijack, I saw the movie The Laramie Project the other day, and Ben, Richard, and Kelvin/Joe Inman were in it. Freaked me out.

Excellent episode, i highly doubt Locke is dead though. I agree on the ring of ash, i thought it was from the volcano that child-ben was learning about.
Future series finale = Volcanic eruption anyone?
I knew immediatly Ben's dad was the beer truck guy, nice tie in.
Anyone else think Roussau ( Cant spell it haha - the french woman) might be Annie from Ben's childhood?

Not even the remotest chance, IMHO. The casting on this show is way too good. A young Danielle should look like Alex. Annie has brown hair, brown eyes, freckles, Western Features, and a Western accent. Danielle has blue or green eyes, black hair, an Eastern European accent, and Eastern European features.

Sorry, I wasn't whining about you stealing my thunder, I was merely pointing out the screencaps are from a reliable source, so could increase your confidence on the video being legitimate, if they match (I can't view video, so can't check the video to see if it match the screen caps)
