I am saddened.
Tickets for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra Chr-stmas show in Jacksonville went on sale Saturday. After Hyperception and I saw them last year, we promised ourselves we would bring Beorn to the show this year, if they returned (last year was their first year playing Jacksonville). The show didn't compare to the one we saw two years ago in Madison Square Garden, where Joan Jett was a special guest towards the end of the show, but it is still worth the ticket cost and the 90 minute drive each way.
*sigh*
It ain't gonna happen this year.

I'm not a huge fan of hers anyway. She was...capable and entertaining.

It was just a kick to have an unexpected guest show up on stage, more than anything else. I haven't seen a lot of shows, so being in NYC and having an unannounced special guest show up towards the end made it a special experience for me.

What a gig!
I've been kindof into folk/trad music for going on 15 years, and I have seen many many amazing Irish and Scottish bands. Until Seth Lakeman, I've never seen an English folk band worth the while. (except levellers of course, don't know if they count as folk though)

Went to the Heaven and Hell show on Tuesday night.
Had its ups and it had its downs!
The were two support acts. First one was called Iced Earth. Common consensus was that they were a cross between Saxon and Iron Maiden, and that they were good. My consensus was that though they were talented, they couldn't perform. Like listening to a cd in your bedroom. Boring.
Next band were called Lamb of God. I liked them though no-one else I was with did. Apparently what they do is called 'battle metal' (new one on me!). Sounded like a cross between Metallica and Slayer with a faint touch of Beastie Boys thrown in. Two things I found really really entertaining: Moshing has diversified! As well as the normal mosh that I remember, there is now apparently the 'circle pit' which is still a mosh but everyone runs around in a circle moshing. And then there is the 'wall of death' where the moshers line up opposite each other and then run from one side to the other, moshing as they go (like a game of 'British Bulldogs' to music, if anyone remembers that). The other thing was the singer's attempts to get the crowd going. I'll put these in spoilers but if a mod wants to delete, i'll understand!
Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath & Ronnie James Dio) then came on. They only played stuff from the albums Heaven & Hell, Mob Rules, and De-Humaniser. What can I say? I am so glad I have seen them play some of their classics live, but in truth 80% was a tad boring. Dio is 67 now apparently, and though he sounded good and looked good, the music is 40-odd years old. It sounds dated. "Die Young" raised a smile. "Heaven and Hell" did too, after 20 minutes of various solos and then the chorus of 'On and on, heaven and hell'. More like 'on and on and on and on and on and on'! Children of the Sea was fantastic early in the set, and their encore Neon Nights (Lights? I can't remember) got the headbanging started, right at the end!
But it was £33 well spent!

Firstly, Lamb of God are in no way battle metal. I don't like the term battle metal, as it refers to a current fashion for music you can play D&D to, but some of the bands that pre-date battle metal (yet are generally placed in this category) are genuinely great. Personally, I'd recommend Ensiferum as the best example.
Aside from the observation that Lamb of God are as battle metal as my mum, I simply don't like them. They do nothing for me. I don't dislike them, I'm just indifferent. Or I was. One of the things that really irritates me at metal gigs is the tendency (particularly of American bands, for some reason) to be downright insulting to the crowd. A bit of friendly ribbing is one thing, but I don't enjoy the direct insults. I've paid to come here and listen to you - show a little respect.

And as well as abusing the crowd, they did do quite a bit of exhorting the crowd along the lines of 'you're in birmingham, the birthplace of heavy metal, to see black sabbath and dio! wake up!'
Heaven and Hell were Dio, Iommi, Butler, and Appice.

Just got hold of tickets to see re-formed My Bloody Valentine in London next June. Tickets sold out in minutes, and we had to get them double price from a tout site. Would've paid that price anyway.
My Bloody Valentine are the loudest noise I have ever heard in my life, when I saw them firt time round.

Which one? Which concert shall I go see?
Jethro Tull - Would like to see that show - playing very close to home
Van Halen - seen them way back in '77 or '78 when they were still unknown
Moody Blues - seen them in '81 and enjoyed them enough to see them again
ZZTop - Always wanted to see them - playing very close to home
All these bands (ex. VH) are schedule to appear in the next 30 days or so and I can only afford to see one.

Went to see My Bloody Valentine on Friday night, at The Roundhouse at Camden, Londen. Their first gig after re-forming.
WOW!
I saw them half-my-life-ago when I was 18, and that gig will always be remembered as THE loudest noise I have EVER heard. Friday night was the second loudest!
They were great.

I just bought tickets to see Journey, with Heart and Cheap Trick in Tampa next month at the amphitheater through LiveNation.com. They are having a special, today only (June 25th), for the Ford Amphitheater, where any ticket in the lawn area is $10, plus a $10 service fee (which supposedly includes $6 for parking), making each ticket $20. That's for any show currently available at the Ford Amphitheater on their site.
Because of my location, I also received offers for any show at The House of Blues in Orlando. None of the shows interested me, but the same Special Purchase icon popped up, and I am curious if the same special is being offered at all Live Nation venues nationwide.
If there is a show you have been wanting to see, visit their site today and see if the show is at what is called a Live Nation Venue. Not all of the shows listed on the site are at their own venues, but you may strike pay dirt.
