I love attending the absolutely traditional Lubavitch services for worship, sitting behind the mehitzah for my own worship, even though I barely understand a word of it. It allows me a place to totally commune with HaShem, far from the distractions of other modern day services. And yet, I am still praying in a communal setting, so fundamental to Judaism that we are required to have a minyan for services to begin.

I guess I can understand the appeal of the Low Mass, for those who prefer it.

It's awesome. I don't know that I'd want to go every week, but I could see once a month.

Why do you find the Low Mass awesome, Cail?

One of the things I love about Catholicism is the tradition and the ritual. Anything that enhances that I find cool.

Hey, maybe it's just because I think Latin sounds cool, I dunno.

Makes sense to me. I love the traditions I practice as well.

Just thought I'd say that a lot of Orthodox Christians applauded the Pope's statement, not because they agreed with it, but because the Pope defined the position of the Catholic Church, rather than vacillate (even if he did diss the Orthodox Church). At least it is a stand that there are absolute truths somewhere that affect everybody whether they like it or not. That is an extremely unpopular view today, because it logically means that some people's beliefs are right and others are wrong. And that's something I can raise my cup to.

As to prayers that Jews will convert - hey, if you profess to believe something, shouldn't you at least act like you believe it?

Didn't someone quote or state that there are many roads to heaven? What if many other beliefs are right, as well?

As I said, the idea that some people's beliefs might actually be wrong is very unpopular.

Don't remember where I got it from...might have read it somewhere. Might have been quoted to me by a Muslim guy I was chatting to on a flight to Cairo a few years back. (That's sorta vaguely where I remember it from...can't swear to it.)

As my paraphrase above shows, I don't keep track of even exact wording of the quote, much less their source. Unless it prompts me to read the rest of the source the quote comes from.

Menolly, It's really quite simple, and I think you understand better than most who post here.

If it's your opinion, then say so.

If you present it as fact, back it up.
